I do need to do better for sure, I just need a weekend to get out my PowerBook 1400 and set up networking or dial-up for it and I should be good to go xD

oh wow, do they even still offer dial-up in the U.S. today? I'm not even sure if you could do that here. But good idea.

When I checked, I found a good bunch of them, so yes! :)

There are two groups 1) old, standby, big players like NetZero, Juno, AOL and possibly Earthlink? Of these, AOL's dial-up plan's setup appears to be messy and I'm not sure if the AOL Software overhead's worth the trouble of getting online with them.

The second group are privately-owned mom-and-pops geared toward people who live in rural areas, want to use a more private internet that doesn't snoop on their browsing history to make money, prefer 100% US-based support and service and may travel a lot.

A possible standout from this group is ARCzip that appears to be highly rated, including a plan that claims to offer 6x faster than normal dial-up, free phone support and even 100mb web hosting space http://www.arczip.com/

The rest include TurboUSA, Mfire, Dialup4Less, BasicISP.net, DSLextreme, MyCopper.net and MyTurboUSA. Many of these have plans to help accelerate the old, plain-copper phone connections and of course and all of them also offer their users free email tied to their service.

Oh, cool! I'll be honest, I was assuming they offered both access from TCP/IP and dial-in, as I hadn't gotten a chance to look at the site yet. It'd be super fun to do TCP/IP connection over dial-up for something like this though and it may be my best option, as I don't have a good way to get my PowerBook 1400 online using broadband at the moment.

So a couple of these (I want to say perhaps the big boys) offer some hours of free dial-up per month, but their paid services offer the accelerated plans (for dial-up, that is)

I also dug up a neat page talking about accelerating your dial-up connection, too! :)

Sorry folks, but that dark grey font is *impossible* to read in "Black Night" and I've tried for an hour to make my font color changes stick. But they won't.

So I'm giving up for now until someone either banns dark grey as a font color for that BBS or shows me how to make *lasting* changes to the font color palette of BN.

So they've been adding old hacker groups newsletters and stuff. Looks like the CQII is going rogue :D

There's also stuff in there your local government certainly wouldn't like you to know, like building certain things ...

Whenever I log into it from my IIci, it gives me this "anarchic 80's feeling". If you haven't tried it out, give it a try.

I stumbled upon this thread while searching for Mac BBS software.  It's great to see someone talking about the BBS!

BTW, it's the two year anniversary of CQ II BBS going live. 11,000 calls, 3400 message posts, and 550 downloads so far, so thanks for all your support!

Thanks - I've been on this site many times in the past but had no idea it had forums!  And thanks for promoting the BBS!
