Apparently someone patched the old Mac network game classic Bolo to allow internet play over TCP/IP! I've never played it back in the day but always noticed how many fans it had.

Page with all info, accessible with old browsers: http://bolo.astrospark.com/

Anyone having any first hand "Bolo" experience?

Anyone interested in playing a round with me? :-)

Cool!
Love this game but haven't played for a while.
Have just downloaded this version but must resist testing.... or I'll get nothing done today....

Haha, well at least one Bolo old-timer. Believe it or not, I just played Bolo for the first time ever. I must be like the worst Bolo player alive :-D ... just played through the tutorial. I keep getting killed by those turret (?) that fire as soon as I get in range. I figured out the hard way it is not advisable to combat them head-on, but how am I supposed to take them out?

I can't say I'm familiar with Bolo, but I'd be interested in playing sometime. What sorta game is it? :)

You steer a small tank in an arena and fight other players, automatic turrets and such. It's fun because it's simple and it's action. Now all we need to know is where everyone is located so we can agree on a time to play. (Central Europe that is here, so it's CET for me)

So players can join in from anywhere? Wow, now that's cool! I thought the most people could do in System 7 was chat online w/an IM program lol :D

I think we really need to get together and play a round. What about the upcoming weekend? Post your possible time / time zone, please! :)

UTC/GMT +2, free weekend ahead, so I'm relatively flexible as to the time :-)

IS there a Bolo server to play with groups of people?

You just start a game on the server (see original post) and keep it open so folks who connect can join in. Unless there is already an open one ongoing.

As always, these days most people are just buying up old Macs to fill shelves and then hang out on social media boasting about their collections. For whatever reason they don't really use them and so your best chances for a game of Bolo is either hanging out there on the weekend in an open game or we agree on a time here and meet.

That said, you could count me in! (though I terribly suck at Bolo...)

Well, I actuall;y do play that stuff (but mostly text adventure games). Let me get some mastery at Bolo and then I'll hook us two up, so I can torture you slowly ;-)

Giving this topic a bump ... Cashed and me just played a round of Bolo. I played on my '89 Mac IIci. Getting smooth scrolling at around 30 fps. Was fun sneaking up on you and blowing your tank @Cashed! :D

I imagine it'll be even more fun with more players. ya'll need to join us. I think a friday evening (CET) would probably make the perfect date?

@Neal - yes! I played it on my Mac IIci running 7.1 online while Cashed was on his Mac Mini G4 with OS9.2. Playing online games on a 68030 Mac - talk about cool stuff!

Here's the website for Bolo (retro friendly)
