For the life of me I cannot get the CD-Rom out of a PowerMac 5500 I recently acquired. When I open up the front I see a metal tab the looks as if it should be pulled up, or pushed down, while pulling forward to remove the drive, but no-matter what I try it will not budge. Opening up the back gives no hints as to how to remove the drive.

If you mean the physical drive itself, it is screwed into a tray.  The trah is what you need to pull out.  It has a tab in the middle of the front.  They can be very difficult to get out sometimes.

There was some random bit of crap wedging in there that was causing it to get stuck. Opening up the back, and giving it a bit of a shove while holding down the tab did it. Thanks though.
