Twas also the case for our first family computer, a IIfx, or possibly IIx, I don't know for certain.

In either case, it died a legitimate death during a power surge. Unfortunately, it too met the bin at some point. Would have made a great revival attempt, now that I'm into repairing these sorts of things! Oh well.

Someone posted a website based on the 6400 here. That Mac actually looks like a perfect candidate to do all of my office stuff on. I may take the plunge someday on one.

You will never regret a properly running PM 6400, Syntho, and having a zip drive in it would be even nicer if nothing more for the added nostalgia and for backing up special documents.

My two System 7 Macs are a Performa 6360 with a nice Triniton monitor I rescued from the side of a road about eight years ago (it is missing a hard drive and a working keyboard) and a Powerbook 2400.

But due to the lack of a decent program launcher (and no, the Launcher control panel does not count) I bumped the OS to Mac OS 8.1 on the Performa to use button icons and desktop tabs although I'd also love to be able to use PopupFolder on Mac OS 8.1 even if I lost the built-in contextual menus, tbh.

It currently boots from and Orb SCSI drive. I would consider installing At Ease again, but after a major OS meltdown on a BII install right after adding At Ease, I'm a little wary of it on a real Mac :o

DragThing is a nice application laucher btw. I use it on my SE/30 in 7.1. It has tabs and drag and drop support. I really like it. Just a recommendation ;)

I am going to resurect my Performa 6400/200 so I can login here with it,
I will try and max it out ie Video Card, memory and HD if I can find what I want on eBay. so that will be my system 7 PC, I also have a LC III I can use.

My Mordern PC's are 2 Power Mac's one a G5 maxed out running Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" and the other a 2006 intel 2.1 maxed out running El-Capitan
Also a Macbook Pro (Late 2008) running El-Capitan.

And I also have a Mac G3 Blue&White with OS 9.2 and Mac G4 Graphite AGP with a Sonnet CPU upgrade running at 1.8ghz.
Also 2 Mac Powerbooks a Walstreet and a Lombard.

Wow, I may have to try to snag me a PM6400 on eBay now! :)

And my dream launcher would be an A-Dock for 68k Macs :D

I loved Finder Palette in System 7 and DragStrip is the closest thing to it that unlike Finder Palette, works with a screen depth of thousands and millions of colors. I love just having the icons, like the OS X dock. I couldn't configure DragThing to just show icons, it's the minimalist in me I guess ;)

Did 7.6.1 ever get USB drivers? A USB PCI card would take care of the hardware part. I also wonder if USB Overdrive would work.

I would love having some top-level 7.x Desktop someday. I just didn't actively seek one yet because of me having too many unfinished side-projects already as is, and because I'm not very comfortable with the idea of replacing capacitors and other parts that require maintenance once every decade or two. (Although I'm willing to get past that.)

It would honestly be cool if someone got System 7 running on newer machines. Dealing with the New World ROM and whatnot must be a huge challenge, though. But hey, nothing like porting over OldWorld ROMs and flashing them into newer Macs, once dully modified for the target machine so nothing catches fire. ;) Extreme degree of madness, but one can dream!

As for the topic question: MDD. But usually a Mac mini G4 if I'm not in the mood to put up with MDD's loudness. (Silencing MDD project coming up, though, by changing the power supply and CPU fan, mimicking the idea this MDD seller has. I recently ordered the parts.)

I'm also looking into getting a custom-made MDD CPU card so it uses two 7448 G4 CPUs clocked at 2.0GHz or 2.2GHz, give or take. Possible via CPU reballing (soldering) and usage of a very small interposer board per CPU to take into account different CPU pin usage: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/g4-7448-and-7457-swap.2233532/
This is a side-project that will take long for me to go through, though, since I have to wait long for the processors to arrive, and I will have to ship my CPU module to have it serviced. But who knows, epic MDDs sometime later this year will pop up?

Now om my PowerPc 6400/200 typing  this running System 7.6.1 there seems to  be a problem setting the date I don't seem to be able to go past 2019 is this a limitation of the PC?, everything else is okay.
the specs are
Memory 40Mb
Graphics Card ATi Rage 128
HD 6Gb
using IE 5.2 to browse and its quite speedy.

Christopher, Apple never intended for you to keep using your 6400/200 (awesome system) past 2019 :-) luckily, there's an easy solution. Grab the 2020 patch from here and put it into your extensions folder. After a reboot, you should be able to set the date past 2019.

Thank you for help Bolkonskij I will download it later and apply the patch. I just need to max out my memory now if I can find 2 64mb modules.

The only Macs that I have that still see any use in 2021 is a 2008 Mac Pro, followed by a 2010 Macbook. All the older stuff is not really useful anymore.

Still using a 2010 White MacBook here as well.  Has a lot of miles on it, but has an SSD, 16GB RAM, an aftermarket battery and charger, and still keeps going.  Recently installed DosDude1's patched 10.15 Catalina on this machine, and I've enjoyed how well it runs.  Needs a new bottom case plate, a new optical drive, and another battery - I may just spring for those items too and see how long the old girl will last.

Aside from the MacBook, I use my G5 pretty regularly.  I use an iMac G4 for music in my bedroom/office - hooked to a set of Bose 301 shelf speakers the sound is wonderful.  And for kicks, I try to make use of my Power Computing PowerCenter Pro as often as I can - a cantankerous but cool clone that let's me scratch my classic MacOS itch.

Talk about scratching an itch... the PowerCenter has a 40GB IDE drive connected to one of the two IDE connections on a PCI-IDE card.  I've had OS 9.1 installed on that drive for some time.  Over the weekend, I hooked up a spare IDE drive to the second IDE connector and installed 7.6.1 from the original PowerComputing install disk.  Of course,I followed up with the list of updates for 7.6 from right here at System 7 Today.  It's a zippy machine and System 7 sails along on it.  A fun little session...
