We're thinking of adding a new "Goodies" section to the System 7 Today website. The idea is to offer System 7 compatible stuff for download to help personalize your Mac. Think of (lower res) wallpapers for use with Decor, desktop patterns, sounds, screensavers, icons.

What exactly would you guys like to see?

More patterns and icons would be great. Hard to find anything like that nowadays.

I'd love more of everything if I'm honest! I love customizing and just having fun with my systems. I think also maybe a DA gallery would be cool, as DAs are always fun to have. :)

I have a bunch of anime/video game wallpapers. I'd be happy to send a selection of the ones I have collected if you would like.

Not quite sure what "DA" is in this context though. Sorry ;)
We'll gladly accept anything relevant! We just need to decide on resolutions, file formats etc. What do you guys think?

Oh, sorry! I meant Desk Accessories in this context.

As for wallpapers, a variety of the wallpapers I have can be seen here. This is only a very small subset of my collection though :)

These are mostly site-related, and I mentioned a couple things in another thread, but here's what I would like to see:

- Ability to upload images in the native System 7 format for forum use
- Possibly more 'kitchen sink' stuff (inserting images etc) for the forum
- Dates on the forum posts so we can keep track of new posts easier

DA's are an interesting idea - thanks Europa! The whole DA idea stems back to the old days before Multifinder I think. Thus I've always disregarded them for System 7. But yeah, a whole lot of them is probably working just fine. And they might be useful. I remember reading about a DA that contains the essentials of Inside Macintosh for lookup.

Are you using DAs with your S7 Macs? If so, which ones?

Syntho, uploading the System 7 format for displaying would be tricky and probably require the server to convert it to jpg. I have no idea if there's any converter for that available or would need to be written from scratch. Fogwraith is the mastermind behind the image uploader - maybe he can write about it here?

Our forums uses regular BBcode. Knezzen and me were talking about adding an info with the most common ones next to the post area. We will look into it!

When System 7 first came out, you could drag DAs out of older system folders and drop them to the Apple menu folder or just open them anywhere as normal applications :)

Any small System 7 application or utility can serve as a pre-System 7 DA. FlashWriter ][ was one I loved, except I was pretty bummed one time the data file got corrupted and I was unable to retrieve my notes and I had written a good number of documents, all gone! :o

I'd love to see System 7-compatible control panels and extensions, too ;)

And of course, my 'other' vote was for Kaleidoscope schemes, a section for those would be totally amazing! :D

You're welcome! I don't use many DAs, but I do have this one really cute one I downloaded from the Garden that is a cat that follows your mouse cursor around. I think it's called neko DA. Also there's System Picker, which isn't a DA I don't think but still would be cool to include. If I think of any more, I'll be sure to share. :)

I also second cballero's idea of control panels and extensions. I can think of a few that I know of that are pretty useful utilities.

As far as Icon collections, I’ve asked Brian Brasher, aka Etherbrian, the permission to host his old classic icon sets on the Macintosh Garden and here (with a link to his current site, of course). He agreed with enthusiast.
These are really classic icons beauties of the System 7/8 period , and many of you must already know his work. Must have for a classic system that I think should be on a dedicated Syst7 website.
Found already another old site archiving his sets :
http://www.bry-backmanor.org/ikthusian/ikthusian2.html
I’ve collected these plus some others I’ve found elsewhere.
Will be happy to pass the archives if one wants to make a dedicated page here, and I’ll do one on the garden too.

That's awesome galgot. I'm busy today but let me get to you about the icons. thus far I've thought about organizing them by their general theme. So one iconpack for cartoon and anime characters, one folder for various Mac icons, one for black & white only icons etc. what do you guys think?

I checked all checkboxes. And I loved the DAs idea, I fully support that. But here's one more:

System-7-exclusive software. For example, a page that lists noteworthy software (games, special utilities, general apps etc.) that will work with System 7 (and maybe earlier), but not beyond. This would make a lot of sense for any System 7 owner, I would say, as those would be things only System 7 could provide. It's not much software, but I know they are out there. (What was that Muppet-like Trash emptying app again?)

Yeah, Oscar is a must-have. I've already got it saved. :-)

As for the DA's, I like the idea. It has a lot of potential.

As for a System 7 exclusives list I'm undecided. If I take myself as an example, I'm merely interested in what software there is and which one is the last (or best) version to use on System 7. I don't really care as much if it crashes on Mac OS 8.6 or not. But I can see where you're coming from. I need to think about it.
