Well, it's a neat idea for a quick injection of some nostalgia. But I deem if you want to do anything useful other than watching the UI and browse some pages in retro mode, you better install Mini vMac & others? (or even better, get the real thing :-))

Still, I'll have to give you "the finger" since this thread is *only* about websites that work with System 7 browsers. ;-)

Wonder if it’s possible to make a website on my se/30 and host it. Humm. Another one to add to my list of system 7 projects!!!

Anyone else tried in on pre PPC machines?

I looked and adobe pagemill 1.0 should work on it

Been writing and working on websites from my IIci using BBedit (directly writing HTML) and a ftp client. You need to be patient because of waiting times but, man, it's a really cool experience. The slowless actually makes it somewhat more enjoyable ... gives you plenty of time to get up and get a beer and drink in between loading programs :-D

I think creating a personal website on a SE/30 sounds like a perfect weekend fun project. Create yours, upload it and submit to wiby.org!

Great thank you. I just looked up wiby.org. That’s fabulous. I’m on holiday friday for a few weeks but definitely my first mini project for zippy (SE/30) and would like to actually host it on zippy for a week, just to see if it’s possible. Although due to its age I wouldn’t want it on permanently so long term would move to a more suitable modern solution.

Aye, I wouldn't host it on the SE/30 permanently, especially considering that you'd like to use the beige box yourself for something else :-)

The Macintosh Garden offers free hosting for precisely such website projects as yours. Check it out and get your space.

Don't forget you can do some fun, old-school web searching over at frogfind.com :D

FrogFind might be fun. FrogFind might be searching. But "old-school"?

Last time I checked what it does was leveraging a modern Search Engine's API (?) and then parsing the stuff, stripping it of tags an old browser doesn't know. Often resulting in something with a fully broken functionality.

It might be nice to retrieve a file for download from a page that mindlessly hides behind SSL encryption, but hardly qualifies as old school browsing in my eyes. Wiby is the one for that.

Thanks both again. I didn’t know Mac garden did that. Oh god yes I wouldn’t want to host on it for long, more an experiment really to see if it can and test it from one of my other macs, it’d make me chuckle 🤭. I use frogfinder it’s great foe my slow machine. Gonna have some tea then have a play see if i can get that adobemill on it and see who to get started. It’s definitely easier on the forum using my phone but not as fun.

Go Go Go!

How about a personal website about you? About the town you live in ? About your occupation? Family?

funny you say that, I was yeah yeah build a website on zippy, then paused my excitement! What am I going to build a website on.......tumble weeds (American western style)lol!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 48 Sunday and pretty boring really. mortgage, kids, average car and job  -  for reference I have a 2017 Vauxhall insignia grand sport, in Europe that's an Opel and in the states a Buick and as for a Job I'm an Analyst at a large Doctors practice (40000 patients) brought in to help the change manager to improve service delivery. My home town is the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire though beautiful it's a sleepy little town with little interest other than the hills itself, spring water, Morgan sports cars all of which are well documented enough online. I relocated to Chippenham 4 years ago for better job opportunities as I'm getter older. that is it!!!

So a hobby page is what I can think of, geeky, left field, fringe all yes but anyone making a website on a 33 year old computer running system 7 meets all those criteria lol

A hobby page sounds perfect, Neal! :) and every site built helps create more old-school websites for other retro-Mac users like us! ;)

But the real retro-challenge is to use your compact Mac for this feat. For reference, most sites from your SE/30's period were largely text-only sites due to the speeds of their dial-up Internet followed by their Mac's processors. They also incorporated tables and HTML-generated bullets. If one then wanted to get fancier, one would then add small GIF bullets for a livelier and more dramatic, fancy look. I mean, you didn't want it to look like a file from 1979 after all! :D
