Words can never express the gratitude I have for what you've pulled off getting the site's forum going again! Man, I really missed this place!! The Classic Mac OS has been my absolute favorite platform and the release of System 7 was a very cool upgrade from System 6, from the silly icons dancing in front of the startup screen to all the amazing shareware programs, utilities and games so many brilliant programmers designed that brought our little Macs to life. Even America Online hosting so much of it! Using our modems those early days made our generation feel so connected to the world, searching the web with hotbot and altavista. Aw man, those were the days

Hi everyone. I just got an email to say the forum is back. Nice to see the site is still around. I don't use System 7 any more, but I still fire up my MacOS 9 machines quite a bit. steve30.

Although I'm an OS 9 boy, I have nothing but great respect for System 7. I do think this system needs more representation and community activity over the internet, so I'm 100% supportive of all this. Well done, Bolkonskij and Knezzen! And mad props to Dan for letting it all happen, as well. (Will he come and join us as a fellow member, too? That would kick ass.) Next Mac Garden projects: System 6 Eternal, System 1 on Steroids, Lisa Paradise, A/UX Heavenly Pub! :p 2030 estimated release date?

Getting exited at those upcoming projects and then seeing the estimated release date was the worst emotional roller-coaster I've been on.

Sorry, that was a minor joke attempt on my part, I don't think there are such projects in the plans. But if there were, it would absolutely kick ass. It was also my own roundabout way of commending everyone behind the Mac Garden and the revival of S7T, considering all the great side-projects that have sprung to life from Macintosh Garden. It's absolutely wonderful. And I almost forgot another one: "Copland Shrine", for people poking around and trying to get things to run on Copland alpha. If days lasted 48 hours instead of 24, I'd totally jump in on building that.

I cannot believe that I am posting to a forum from my Macintosh LC 580 in 2021... Thank you to the admins for all your hard work in getting this forum up and running again! It's fantastic to have a reason to take this old machine online again!

Welcome Nightingale! If you're "stuck in the 90's", stay onboard! System 7 Today is our escape capsule in terms of computing - back to the days when computing was exciting & fun! :-) Your LC 580 is still a great computer. Facebook won't work, but thanks to pages like the Macintosh Garden you can finally build the personalized LC 580 system you always dreamt about!

Aaaaand, another neat feature you can setup is that you can also fire-up your old email programs and email away from System 7, yay!

Lol, I also worked on a project to jimmy-rig AIM to work with an online service AIMed (had to include that pun) to resurrect the defunct online service: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/aim In fact, a whole (open-source/open-ended?) online chat platform (service?) is available called IRC, for which System 7 and above has a client. I've never used it, but I'm definitely warming up to the idea. The client shared with me with a fellow Basilisk IIer is called smIRCle 68k. m68k uploaded a PPC and 68k version after I asked more about it to the Garden just last year August, yay! Here it is: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/smircle The Software Guide has more email and IRC programs, all compatible with 68k Macs so no one gets left out, which is wonderful, I mean, isn't that what it's all about? ![]() I listed AIM first because it was my first online chat service. I would like it even more if we started our own AIM chat server. It has the potential for extendability since the original AIM service could send images, audio, sounds, QuickTime movies in real-time and file-sharing. I think PPC Mac versions also included audio calls, which I think were available for Mac OS 8.5 and up?

All power to IRC! ![]() I keep using the Knezzen's Mac Garden IRC bridge for all my chatting purposes. It works with literally ANY IRC client. Given that MacIRC lists only a 68020 CPU as requirement, you should be able to Facebook chat with your friends from a 1987 Macintosh II computer. Now how cool is that? ![]() As for AIM server and support, why don't you ask my fellow admin Knezzen? He's a bit busy lately, but he might be able to work something out.

The IRC to Facebook etc bridge works very well, but it would be cool to set up a proper old school IRC channel for us to use as well. So we can chat with each other as well
