I'm new to the vintage computing world, so thank you in advance for any advice about this problem. My Performa 550 (running 7.6.1) was accidentally unplugged while running. Since then, when I turn it on, it goes into an infinite loop of: happy Mac face, then gray screen with cursor in the corner, then happy Mac face, over and over. I tried zapping the PRAM several times, but still the infinite loop on startup. Should I create a System 7.6.1 Disk Tools floppy and try booting from that and running diagnostics on the system? Should I attempt to do a clean install of system software? |

That's a strange one! Does the startup chime keep repeating? If so, is the restart button stuck in? Otherwise, yes try starting off another disk. If still no go, try disconnecting the internal drive and any other peripherals.
