Hi all ! My first post here :)
I have a nice Powerbook 1400c running 7.6.1 and 8.6, with VST Zip drive in the right extension bay. That drive  needs a driver to work , an init called VST SuperDisk. I have version 2.0 of that init. Problem is that it works only with 8.6 . If I try to load it in 7.6.1 , it crashes the system during the extensions loads at boot up…
Anyone here know if the was an earlier driver compatible with Syst 7 ?
Really bothers me to reboot in 8.6 each time I have to use the Zip drive ...

Hi Galgot and welcome!

I found this link : http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/vst-zip-100-drive-powerbook-1400

It sais it is the drivers for the powerbook 1400 version of the VST zip drive. It also sais that it is only compatible with Mac OS 8 -> 9 but it looks strange to me that VST would do a driver for that computer that is not compatible with the default system of that computer. You may try it anyway!

Let me know how it goes!

Thank Feeef :)
But i think this is the same 2.0 version of the driver. Though I had only the extension file, this is the all install disk. Will try it this evening.
Strange indeed, and if there is a version 2.0, there must have been a 1.0.

Exactly!
Let me know how it goes! If it doesn't work we may just look for this version one indeed! :)

Just tried it. Doesn't work either :/
macBug says it's indeed "VST SuperDisk" extension that causes the crash at boot.
Must find an earlier version...

You can try to change extensión load order.
Insert a space as first caracter name.

Thanks Rafas !
Will try that extension load trick.
As for using the iomega driver, tried it already, it says that it can't any zip drive connected to the computer :/ But will try again with some older drivers, maybe it will work...

Ok some progress !
The trick of adding a space to the "VST SuperDisk"extension works, but with small drawbacks.
At first it hangged for 20 secs before loading the VST extension at boot up, then loaded it and booted without problems. but it wouldn't mount the zip when I inserted it. then restarted the Mac, with a zip in the drive.and it showed on the desktop :) Tried ejecting and inserting another one, mounted without problem.
here a screenshot:

So I must have a zip in the drive to be able to use it.
Also,it seems loading that extension have made the all system less stable... I've 3 system crashes since then :D
I've also tried the oldest iomega driver I could find, that is vers 4.3. But alas, same thimg , it says it could not load cause it can't see any zip drive connected.
But anyway,it's fun trying that stuff. Thanks Rafas.

Hi,
old topic I know, but just wanted to report some progres.
Today tried Iomega Driver 6.0.9, didn't had that version before, was using version 4.3. Putting space at the begining of the init name, and it works perfectly ! no need to have a zip in the VST drive to get it loaded. Tested on two VST drives versions, for PB1400c and for PB3400c, running System 7.6.1, both works.
So V 6.0.9 is the way to go for these VST :)
Cheers
