What is the oldest Mac you use on a daily basis? I have been remodeling my home office in the basement for the past 2 years, which I expect to have completed this spring, and I am trying to decide what computers I want to setup. I expect to have 6-10 computers setup, that I can and will swap out as needed. Of my Mac's, I am considering my Quadra 950, 605, 700, IIsi, IIci with A/UX, SE/30, Classic, Plus, etc...

I'm mainly wondering what others are doing with their systems, and if they are being used daily and productively?

Thanks!

My Powerbook G3 Wallstreet running 9.2.2 and MintPPC 11 is my main mobile machine. The WS runs off a Compact Flash card and is quiet, wifi provided by an Orinoco Gold in both OSs.

I keep my Dell Latitude C810 that I brought back from the dead on standby in case the WS has a snitfit on me. The Latitude runs Linux Mint 9.

My main mac desktop is a B&W G3 running MintPPC 11 and eventually I'll get 10.4.11 back on there.

So long as I keep my ][e or ][gs handy, I'm often tempted to write some applesoft BASIC when the idea pops into my head. I have many other 68k & PPC macs, but alas, they usually just sit.

I'll definitely keep a IIe setup... I've currently got one setup as a terminal to my G5, but I enjoy firing up an ocassional game, or writing something in BASIC. I've never had a IIgs as part of a permanent setup, so I'll have to think about that.

I may also setup my Commodore SX64, Atari XEGS or 800XL, or IBM 8080. I'll probably also have my Sun Ultra 60 setup with some flavor of Linux for SPARC. My beige PM G3 tower will probably also have a place.

I'd still really like to come up with some uses for 68k Mac's. The Q950 is almost a guarantee... with a 17" Colorsync monitor, AppleDesign Speakers, and 6 CD Changer.

My 2006 Mac Pro.

Not qualifying for daily, my Kanga get's very infrequent, occasional use for this and that purpose.

I have a Starmax 3000/180 hooked up to a localtalk laserprinter acting as a localtalk to ethernet bridge.

Until it died (I hope to ressurect it), my PB1400 was in use every day as a cafe and kitchen cruiser using a pcmcia wifi card.

My Performa 6300 7.6 is still used for older games, as well as an original bondi G3 233 iMac running 8.6.

Warbirds is still a great WWII combat flight sim and runs excellent on older Macs.

I use a white Core 2 Duo iMac as my daily desktop.  Right next to it is an iLamp, er, iMac G4, that I use very often.  (17", the last OS 9 bootable model iMac.)  It's kind of fun having the first and the last 17" iMacs next to each other.

A 2005 Mac Mini. Not sure how long it will be in daily use, a 2011 Mac Mini is being set up to replace it.

I use a PowerBook 3400c and a desktop PowerMac 5500 pretty much daily.  They are both configured with the same software and Mac OS 7.6.1.  I also have partitions with 8.6 and 9.1 installed for the rare times when I want to use some software that won’t run on 7.6.1.  I also have Sheepshaver with the same 7.6.1 configuration running on my Dell Latitude PC.  (I also had it running on my MacBook Pro at work at my previous job.)  I love the old software that simply does what you tell it to do much better than the modern stuff that always guesses wrong when it tries to help me out.  People continually ask me how I am able to create this or that on my computer hoping that they also can learn how to do such things.  They are usually shocked (and disappointed) when I tell them that I made it on my ancient Classic Mac using software that came out in the early 1990’s.

I use a Performa 630CD with an Imagewriter II daily for writing, and light web surfing with WannaBe or iCab. It's a fantastic machine, one of my favorite Macs. It's running System 7.6.1

Hullo, happy to have found a forum for folks who enjoy vintage Macs!

At work I use a brand new MB-Pro running Lion but at home . . . the first thing I turn on is my 7100/80 that I bought new! It sat unused for years and years but I've recently rehooked up a ton of stuff and am having a great time!

Kind regards, Scott

My main computer is a PowerMac G5 (late 2005).

But for on the road I keep using my old 800 Mhz TiBook and then there is the good old PowerMac 7100/80 waiting to be turned on every now and then for a classic game or surfing around the net, trying various things :)

Wow, I thought my PowerMac 6100 was old, (I'm using it right now with Classilla 9.3.1).  I'm glad to hear of people using much older machines regularly.  I have an LC and a IIsi, but I hardly ever use them.  I keep them running mainly as a novelty.

This 6100 (well actually a 6116CD), has been upgraded with a 500MHz Sonnet G3 CPU, 264MB RAM, 4MB HPV video card, 50GB scsi Hard Drive, 32GB Compact Flash with IDE converter, and a nice scsi CD burner.

Some of the more heavily used software includes MS Office 2001, Photoshop 7, Classilla, and quite a few emulators & games.  It also runs Windows 98SE via Virtual PC, although I don't really need it because it's networked with my PC using DAVE.

This thing will actually run quite a few 3D games that are capable of software mode, such as Deus Ex, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, etc.  These are quite playable at decent framerates, especially UT.
