Hello there, I have a Performa 63CD machine which I have revived from a long sleep in the attic. I was wondering whether it can accept any more memory than it already has. I'm not familiar with the model, or its specifications. It's running some variant of system 7.2. Can anyone tell me how much onboard memory it has, or if upgrading the memory is even possible? Thanks in advance! |

Quote from: "24bit" Hello, Yes siree, that appears to be it. I don't think it actually has a PowerPC processor, but I can't find any specs that say otherwise. Of the 6300 series, the 63CD may have been an oddball.

Can you run "Apple System Profiler" to find out what kind of machine you actually have got? Knowing Gestalt ID and mainboard it should not be too hard to find out, which RAM is needed, e.g. 2x32MB 70ns 72-pin SIMMs. Good luck finding your RAM!

Maybe this could also help determining which model you got: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mactracker

Thanks a lot guys, but I don't think this machine even *has* System Profiler on it. What's more, I can't get any of my PCs to format Mac floppies (even with Emulator Explorer), so moving a utility to the machine is hopeless.

AFAIK, there never was a Performa 63CD. There is a 630CD (one zero) and a 6300CD (two zeros), which look superficially similar on the outside but are actually very different - one being a 68k and one is a PowerPC. 630CD: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_performa/stats/mac_performa_630.html 6300CD: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_performa/stats/mac_performa_6300cd.html Please read the label on your computer more carefully and tell us what you actually have. If it's scratched or marked up or something, there will also be a label and model number on the back or bottom somewhere.

Oh, sorry - It's definitely the first one, as I'm certain it does NOT have a PowerPC processor.

Too bad. HFV Explorer is not an option with your Windows machine? You might as well just open the box and have a look at the main board. What was the manufacturing date, how many RAM banks? Best wishes!

Quote from: "24bit" Too bad. I think I'll try that. The back cover is missing, so removing the logic board would be easy.
