Yesterday i installed mac os 7.6 on my performa 6116 but i have this problem: It cannot read cds where i have copied files via toast from my imac. For instance I have copied in various cds lots of old games and all i want is to use these cds in my performa to extract the files (usually .sit files) but when i put the cd in the drive a message come on my screen that gives me two options: eject or initialize. I did't have this problem with mac os 8.1 installed on my performa 6116 or with mac os 9.2 installed on my imac g3. On the other way games that are toast images, i burn them with toast and my performa reads the cds normally.

Sometimes older CD Drives and their drivers have problems reading burned CDs and an updated driver will solve the problem.

I am not sure if you have looked in the Important Updates section of the System 7 Today site. There is an update for the CD Drive that comes with OS 7.6.

Be sure your CD isn't burned in HFS+ or "Mac OS Extended", which System 7 cannot read. You can verify this by putting the CD into a Mac running Mac OS 8.1 and higher (including Mac OS X). Get info on your CD and see if it says Mac OS Extended or Mac OS Standard for the format. You want standard.
