I start it up. i got the happy mac sound once. i plugged in an NEC multisync lcd display up to the mac and I get nothing on the screen, it does come on however, its just a blank gray screen. what could be the issue? i just ordered a external apple scsi CD rom so i can boot from this 7.6 cd i have. hope it will work on this machine, it says powermac on it. do i need a genuine apple RGB display or is it just that there's isn't any OS on the hard drive? any help i would appreciate it, thanks! |

got the color working.. found out where the settings are.. looks perty now.. now to get my ethernet card working.. i have two. one with the weird looking serial-like looking port (i have a ethernet transceiver to convert it to ethernet but file sharing doesn't seem to be working :/ and another one with the RJ-45 port on it. it'd be cool if i could browse craigslist with the CI.. CL is simple, should work with the old mac.

The transceiver converts AppleTalk to Ethernet, so make sure that AppleTalk is active in the control panel and that it is using the port to which you have connected the transceiver. There should be icons in the plastic to tell you which port is which. Netscape 3, Internet Explorer 4.5, Cyberdog2 are the most commonly available browsers that support 68k Macs.I have not used any of them is sometime, but I suspect they probably all behave somewhat poorly now days. bill

What you probably have is an AAUI adapter. (Or possibly a less Apple-specific AUI.) An (A)AUI connects to an Ethernet interface, not a serial port. They are from the days before RJ-45 was the standard, when you might have one of a few different physical cables connecting your network. Even if you happen to have something that looks the same in the computer; unless you're *SURE* it's an Ethernet card, don't plug the adapter in!
