Well, I've managed to play MPEG-4 video in Classic OS, but not MPEG-2. Does anyone know how to play these files in OS 7-9 without buying Apple's MPEG-2 Playback Component for Quicktime? David |

Could you tell me how you managed to play MPEG-4 video on Classic OS? Did you use Quicktime to play the video? If so, what version of Quicktime did you use? For the video file, what were the file type and creator codes?

Currently I'm using OS 9.2.2 and Quicktime 6.0.3 with the 3ivx drivers. I convert h.264 videos to MPEG-4 with a transcoder on a much more modern machine, then USB the files over. So far, I've been able to get smooth 480x320 @ 30fps on a G3-400. Viewed at full screen, it looks ok. If I had more horsepower though I could probably do 640x480 or better. Sorry, I didn't answer your entire question. The encoding format is not completely clear on the software I'm using (Any Video Converter for PC). But my best guess is that it is using either DivX or XviD codec. Obviously Classic OS is not going to know what to do with H.264, but older MPEG-4 codecs usually work pretty good. Hope that helps.
