Hello all, I got a 6100/66 from eBay. Looks great and works; but when I connect my Apple Color Display the screen gets this pink hue, like when the cable is bad and it misses one color. It is not the monitor, it works fine on other Macs I tested. It is definitely something to do with the motherboard. I wonder if any of you have seen this problem before or knows how to fix it. many thanks indeed. Marcio Pocciotti |

You do not mention which Mac OS you are running on the 6100. If your system has Color Sync installed, you might check to see if you have selected the correct monitor profile. Color Sync would also allow you to do a calibration that might help. I am not familiar with that particular monitor or with the 6100, so perhaps someone else will jump in with better advice. bill

Hello Bill, Thanks for your reply. The 6100/66 is running System 7.6.1 and ColorSync is not installed. I have tried another VGA monitor (with an adapter) and it is also pink. So I guess it is the video portion of the motherboard. The question is why? Where exactly? Old capacitor? I have inspected the MOBO and couldn't find anything obviously wrong. Cheers, Marcio

As Dan mentioned there are other video options available for the 6100. As further diagnostic you can set your color to black and white or grey scale and see if the pink cast is still there on that setting. Typically a pink cast on a monitor indicates a failing monitor and not failing video components in the computer. But since you experience it on two monitors it certainly points to problems with the computer. Since you have OS 7.6 installed you can install color sync software. Which can be downloaded from Apple's Older Software Downloads . Installing this would allow for calibrating the monitor and other settings that might reduce the impact of the pinkish cast. bill

Hello all, yes, I have an HPV. I tested it (without the 6100 top cover) and it works. So it is the motherboard. The problem is that I don't have a PDS-PDS adapter in order to install the HPV horizontally, So.... Thanks a lot for your help. Marcio Pocciotti

First off, I didn't see you mention whether or not you've tried calibrating the color with colorsync. That can definitely make a huge difference as it controls all the hues & brightness. Second, finding an adapter for a video card shouldn't be too difficult. You may be able to find someone willing to give one away on a Mac site. Finally, I'm glad to hear you got a 6100. I really love that system. I have a Sonnet 500Mhz G3 in mine, along with 264MB RAM and a Yamaha CD burner. I use the AV card, though I've never really played with video capture. In some ways, the 6100 is a better performer than my 6500 which also has a 500Mhz G3 upgrade, for the simple reason that the 6500 is limited to 128MB RAM. You may be able to find some 128MB sticks of 72-pin simms on ebay. I got mine real cheap. BTW, I believe I have 2 spare sonnet upgrades for a 6100. That would also alleviate your need for an adapter.
