... For me anyway. I'm a dyed in the wool geek girl. I've always loved my tech, but lately not as much. This new generation of web-everything is so incredibly bland. Nothing about it excites me. I was a teenager through the mid and late 1990s so I remember the OS wars between Windows 95 and System 7. I remember drooling over the Quadra 840av at Computer City. I remember having to act happy when my parents gave me a Compaq Presario with Windows 95 instead of the nice Power Mac I wanted ![]() Woe was me. I finally got into Macs in college but couldn't chase the Apple upgrade-o-rama. I just never made enough money to be a Mac user. Fortunately I had everything I needed to be happy. I got sick of it all about two months ago and decided to give away my dual 3GHz thing. So now I use my old 500MHz Sawtooth G4 with 9.2.2 as my main computer, an iMac 500 with 9.2.2 in the kitchen for my housemate, a Powerbook 3400 with 8.5.1 and 7.6.1 and my 6500 with 7.5.5. A blue G3 with 8.6 sits around as my backup for both the iMac and the G4. I'm in heaven now that I use Word 5.1 instead of Google Docs :p |

I remember back in the days when I had windows 3.1 when i didn't know anything about computers and my dad had it because he used it to do taxes and financial shite. i liked the Apple IIs we had at school and wanted one like that.. I asked him about it and he just said something like, "oh their different" i always wanted an apple. About five years ago I switched to the Mac. I sold my Athlon XP box my friend built for me (which was so noisy) and bought a 400mhz "Sawtooth" powermac G4 and I have never looked back. I'm still a student so I can't afford a new mac, but i sold my G4 and upgraded to a powermac G5 tower and a 15" Powerbook G4... (both running Leopard) both used on ebay, which have worked better than the custom built PC, and much quieter as well. Sorry if this was a bit wordy or confusing, its late and had a few glasses of wine.... but anywho, welcome, i'm new as well to this forum.

System 7.5 was released a year before Windows 95, so it was a 7.5 vs. Windows 95 war, and previously a System 7.x vs. Windows 3.x war.

Quote from: "Jamie-Jamie" ... For me anyway. You have embarked on a journey that is going to take up a lot more time and money than you ever imagined but most of us here will agree that it is worth it. It won't be long now before you are taking out a second mortgage to add a room to house your Mac collection. Welcome and happy Mac'ing.

My newest Mac is 2005 mini with 1.42Ghz G4. Just upgraded the ram to 1 gig, way easier than expected. I still use a G3 upgraded PowerBook 1400cs. It's batteries are dead, can replace them just don't feel like at the moment. It's my main machine when I'm on the go. I use it for writing, Photoshop 5 with a Wacom tablet for doodling. If it wasn't for modern browsing needs, I'd still be using my iMac G3 400 regulary. The pc I have is set up with win98se and is in a corner gathering dust. My classic Macs are fast and work great, I just can't justify anything newer.

Welcome, Jamie-Jamie! I never had to pretend to like Windows. I got a Fat Mac in 1985 and have been Mac ever since. The Mac collecting bug bit me hard and took on a life of its own. While I have bought some of my collection, most of them have managed to find me because word has gotten out that I collect them. I've got around 40... almost all still work.
