I have tried website after website and all they offer as far as classic OS is either OS 8 or OS 9, but I can't find a CD-ROM of OS 7.6.1, which is what I need for my beige PowerMac desktop. Can anyone help me out? I would greatly appreciate it! ---n3r0 |

Checking eBay really quick I find two, one 7.6.1 restore CD of some sort here and a nice retail boxed 7.6 set here. The 7.6.1 restore CD should work on everything but the later 6500s, 8600s and 9600s. A 7.6(.0) CD will have similar restrictions. We don't actually sell anything here.

I don't have a spare 7.6.1 here, but do have 3 CD's of 7.6. You can have one those for about $5 mailed to the Continental US. You can then download the 7.6.1 update from this site.

To "Dpaalanka" I checked out eBay and bought the boxed CD set...by the way, I have a Powermac 9600. I bought it at a garage sale for $50 and it came with a compatible monitor as well as the original keyboard and mouse. The man who sold it to me said he stopped using it when he bought an iMac back in '98. He recommended I upgrade the Powermac to OS 7.6.1 because he heard that it was the best version of OS 7 to come out. Luckily for me, the computer came with some software, most notably Microsoft Office for Mac. Thanks for helping me out.

I screwed up there...I have a PowerMac 4400 with a 200 Mhz PowerPc processor. I was thinking of the PowerMac I used to have when I was a teenager...I apologize for the confusion. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac/stats/powermac_4400_200.html

Lucky for you, because I was about to write a post saying your boxed 7.6 set would probably not install on a 9600.
