I've recently come across a Belkin surge suppressor that has a remote that will turn off outlets to reduce standby power draw. I have a big AppleVision 850AV CRT, IIci, Beige G3, and and DuoDock II that are not used everyday, but which are always plugged in.

Would I be reducing the lifetime of those items if I cut their power every few days? I want them to last as long as possible. Thanks!

It is a risk to leave an old
computer in the dust for a while,
but an alternative is to open
each Macintosh and reseat RAM
and ROMs.

It may be necessary to replace
the battery and also clean the
motherboard.

Goodluck.
