HELP ME apparantly the speed doubler 8 download on this site is broken. the .sit part crashes my computer. ;( how do i fix it? |

I just checked the download and it worked correctly in so far as the files expanded into the needed installers. I am not sure why the files would crash your computer. Dp you have the last version of Stuffic Expander for 7.6.1 installed? Do you have sufficient disk space for the file to expand? You might wish to re download and give it another try. bill

now i tried stuffit 4.5 but it simply refuses to expand.

Stuffit Expander 5.5 is the version available for download on this site. It works well with OS 7.6.1. Perhaps you can download the 5.5 version and see if it will work for you. One of the more nagging problems with Stuffit was that it changed formats over the years. This tends to make associating .sit files with the correct expander something of a moving target. bill

Perhaps you could try re-installing Stuffit 5.5. I do not have a System 7.6 machine available in front of me at the moment to give the file archive on the site a try. As far as I am aware the files downloaded from this site are all valid and working files. You do not mention what machine you are using or what system version you are using. Stuffit 5.5 runs on System 7.5 and later. If you are running a System 7.1. or earlier, I believe you are limited to using Stuffit 5.1. I do not know where to download earlier versions of Stuffit Expander. Perhaps someone else will chime in with more helpful hints. bill

My Powerbook 1400 is hit-or-miss with Stuffit under 7.6.1. With Speed Doubler 8 and a few other downloads on this site (and others, it seems to be random which downloads don't work, but the ones that don't always don't), I've had to switch over to OS 8 or 9 to unstuff them (using the same exact Stuffit) and it works like a charm. My other Macs have not shared this problem... at least, not to my knowledge.

because I haven't been able to find the link. I've looked all over the site and haven't been able to find the link to Speed Doubler. A little help please.
