What do you all use?  I *prefer* AppleWorks 5, but I use Microsoft Office 98 out of necessity.

Does AppleWorks convert Word and Excel Files?

You could use for the these two formats and use PowerPoint Viewer 98 for viewing PowerPoint Files.

Question?  (DanPalka) Do you use Office 98 on your PowerBook much or do you wait and use your desktop with OSX and Office 2004 most of the time?

One nice thing about Applework is the drawing feature and integration with the other applications.

What kind of assignment do you do on Office 98? PowerPoint presentations, reports, financial calculations. You are in advertising? Of course you have basic class.

Just wanted to know how useful office 98 was to you, and what specific kind of document you create with Office 98.

System 7 Today is correct. If you use all the productivity apps of 1997 today.

I think what makes the operating system useful is the performance upgrades that you have in your PowerBook 1400c with the G3 upgrade.

Kind of like a Palm OS TX with a 333MHZ processor and a small operating system, but with more powerful applications such as Adobe, Quark, Microsoft.

Would not be as much fun if you used a standard 166MHZ PowerBook.

What are you thinking about buying?

A G5 Dual for a desktop replacement?

What kind of portable are you thinking about  using in the future?

You mentioned that you would like to get a Powerbook 2400c.

Probably a faster G4 (a 133mhz Motherboard DA or something), and a 2400c or something.

I oringinal wanted to get a PowerBook 2400c and put a solid state drive in it so it would run silent.

Please document your findings on the PowerBook 2400c if you decide to go with it.

I have been loking on eBay and the PowerBook 2400c is rare. The G3 upgrade card is even harder to find. Good luck in your System 7 adventures.

I use Office because I need to, even then I prefer Appleworks.

But I use Office for basically everything and save in the most universal format if I can depending on what that is for the app in case I need to use something else.

Office is one thing that Microsoft got right.
