So I'm on my G4 running Tiger, and want to export some videos for QuickTime 5. Has anyone any opinions on what they believe to be the best export options for QuickTime 5 playback on OS 7, for distribution on the internet? |

What did you use for your oreilly qt? that was quick and worked well with system 7. The quality was good?

Please try to answer the questions inside the forum if possible, instead of just posting dozens of anonymous links, especially those to software not yet tested and verified by System 7 Today. Well, I have made a ton of web videos and I've used Sorenson Video 3 to make sure of backwards compatibility with QuickTime 5. If you are aiming for something further back (like QuickTime 3) then you should go with the original Sorenson Video codec. For Quicktime 6 and later I have been pretty happy with MPEG4, and have started using that for my client's sites. The thing about QuickTime is that even if you don't have the full version, it shares it's codecs with other applications that work with QuickTime video. For example I can open a movie in GoLive (which comes with a built in video editor) and then export that movie using any codec that comes with QuickTime. The same is true of Premiere and Videoshop, so you should be able to create these videos in Mac OS 7.6.1 and prepare them for the web without QuickTime Pro. For a more professional compression of video, Sorenson provided an application for more extensive use of the Sorenson Video 3 codec. It was this app that Apple used when putting up video content on their site back in the days of QuickTime 5 and was very good at getting the final file size down.
