Any opinions/ ideas/ dreams  of what would be the fastest OS 7.1 Mac?  Which hardware upgrades one should do to make it really fly?

The Mac and the  upgrades should be something one is actually able to get hands on. Something that would pop up in Ebay at least twice a year.

The 7.1 seems to be just on the right side of  the line to be modern, and I seem to have  quite a few apps myself, that I bought for PPC's which will run in 7.1

Any old memories from a Mac veteran's youth, something you drooled over long time ago?

Well most certainly an early 8100 that can run 7.1.  That would be the 80mhz, and possibly the 100mhz version.

Max this is my youth thanks man!

Dan is correct the 8100 would run on 7.1.2 this was the first os for the ppc version mac.  Which I have a 6100 7100 8100 system cd.  I do not think a universal cd was sold for 7.1.2 "unknown".
No problem though if i have it its yours.

you could run a sonnet g3 in a 7100, 8100.  But not sure if it will work with 7.1.2  I have the 7100 with a g3 I could test 7.1.2 for you let me know

Thanks for both of you!

I am trying to learn Claris Home Page now,  and a 7.1 project is something for the future.

Here is a shop site for Mac  upgrades I found, but I think the company is dead as last update for the site was 7 years ago, and they did not answer to an e-mail of mine. Maybe someone is just keeping it up not to let the good old times be lost in the cyberspace.

Take it as a museum tour, but running a 90Mhz IIsi would surely have been nice.

Dunno, maybe they are. It would be nice to get some of those CPU's they have listed.

It just feels as one of those mock up shops in a museum, where everything looks to the last detail like it did 100 years ago.

It is in the US,  so would anyone be brave enough to give them a call?

If you go to the software page and try to select a software title you find a page not found with an offer to go to the index. The Place you arrive at was last updated 2006 and has more recent contact information.

i powered down and still nothing It starts to boot and stops

Everymac says that my 7100/80av will run 7.1.2

The Quadra 840av came with a version of 7.1 stock, and will be faster running 7.1 than any ppc which can only run much of it in emulation. The Quadra 950 is also a fearsome beast, especially with a Daystar Quad 040 and a few interesting nubus cards installed, but I think that the king of the Quadras, the 840av, outshines it.

For sheer style, on the other hand, I'd choose a Quadra 605, but alas, it runs at only half the speed of the 840av and is not nearly so technologically interesting.

So, in answer to your question: No powerpc can run pure 7.1, period. And no powerpc will run 7.1.x very well: they run 7.1.x in convoluted ways that are best avoided. So if you want to run 7.1, run it on the hardware it was designed for: 68k.
