Oke, I launched extensions manager (or what its called?) and the program hung. I waited 15 minutes or so and forced quit it.

I then went on to search the extensions folder manually and found something called cyberduck. I couln't control my curiosity and launched it. The computer completely hung. I turned it off and on and now it shows a folder with a question mark.

I can boot off the cd and browse the volumes, except when opening the system folder the system showed a dialog that quickly turned white and I think I saw a black bomb icon. Then it hung again.

Fix it or reinstall? I hadn't done anything else to customize it so a reinstall won't have me loose valuable stuff.

Thx for the help.
Ingemar.

Firstly, stuff in the extensions folder is not intended to be launched or opened.

Secondly, I have no idea what "Cyberduck" is, other than an FTP client for Mac OS X.  So you must have customized or installed something into System 7 in some way.  What did you do to the system after installation that might have placed something called "Cyberduck" into your extensions folder?

Third, if you boot from your 7.6.1 install CD, you can use the "Disk First Aid" utility to try and fix any corruption on your hard drive.

I'll give drive aid a spin.

Cyberduck was installed from the 7.6.1 CD I have.

I haven't launched anything from the system or extensions folder, I was simply trying to find the extensions since the control panel item hung.

The only thing I have changed is power management via the control panel and I noticed it wasn;t working. I have been looking for a screen saver as well.

Oh, I changed the desktop background as well ;)

Seriously, I think it got corrupted when I had to turn it off. I guess I was unlucky or something.

If drive aid doesn't fix it I'll reinstall the bugger.

Oke, I tried to reinstall but it hung. I then tried to reinitialize the drive and that hangs on installing device driver. I think the harddrive died on me ...

Problem is I can't find another harddrive.

I just noticed a 9600/350 for sale, 320MB and 4GB drive, zip drive and cd-rom. The machine looks fine.

He's asking 140 bucks, I offered him 40 :) no bloody way I'm paying more than 50. That thing is for sale for 2 months, the page visited 96 times and no offers whatsoever. He can take it or leave it. I'm already spending more on this than I should ...
