I recently got a G3 iBook, and the power adapter end (where the cord and the input to the iBook meet) decided to fry itself. The rest of the adapter works fine, just the tip is fried, and severed now. How would I fix the cord? (ie. solder it back on somehow) |

Do you know the reason for the short-cut?

Well if it's the original yo-yo power adapter, and you were plugging it in without completely unwinding the cord from the adapter, or the previous owner did, that could be the reason it's fried.

Quote from: "null1024" I had a yo-yo adapter. In that case you should just forget about it and buy an aftermarket replacement.

It was pretty common for the yo-yo adaptor to fail at the connector. It is very difficult to get sufficient length of wire out of the plug end to do a good solder job. Your best bet is to cut off the plastic around the connector. Once you have the metal connector out to the plastic, you can unsolder the broken ends. With the broken ends removed you can simply strip the insulation back on the cord and make a new solder connection. The resulting connection can either be taped well, or you can create a new shield around the plug using epoxy. bill

The very first white iBook G3's did come with yo-yo's, I had one myself until my cat chewed through it and I bought a newer box one.

Haven't been around S7T in a while but... Ok, I'm looking at aftermarket replacements, anyone know about these guys? http://macwizards.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=19&gclid=CMSY0oGD1o8CFQMsFQod-07J-Q I don't want to blow $35 on a piece of crap like the $80 official Apple adapter (going purely based off of reviews for that adapter)

You can try Wegener Media. I go a 30 GB drive for my PB 1400 there. They seem to have a good supply of parts for older powerbooks http://www.wegenermedia.com/
