Just picked up a Classic II today (was free!) but when I plug it in and power on I get a black and white striped screen! Does this mean the mobo is shot or is this a sign of a fixable problem? Any help would be great! Thanks! |

Does this mean the mobo is shot or is this a sign of a fixable problem? Any help would be great! Sounds like it may be problems with the analog board. I am not sure where that sits in the Classic II, but on the older toaster Macs it set on the vertically on the right side of the picture tube as you look at the front. Check to see that none of the capacitors are leaking or have leaked. Those can be replaced with stock parts from Radio Shack, or sometimes a cleaning to remove the corrosion around the base will correct the problem. You might also check the solder joints. The high frequency of the electronics will often fatigue the solder joints causing them to break. Remelting them will generally fix any issues there. bill
