Forgot about this wonderful program, until I bought a 99 cent 1400cs, with a battery. Oh and I got a 2300c Duo with three batteries, and then I had my 2400c with a iffy battery (got a okay one from a parts 2400c) So, each battery had less than 30 minutes, until I downloaded this wonderful program. I used it on each battery, and I am happy to announce that a $10 program gave me AT LEAST one and a half hours out of each battery! This is great stuff! b |

I have that nice and niffty program on all four of my PowerBooks but unfortunatley, I only had luck with the battery in my 1400c/133 which lasts up to two hours and one of my Duo batteries which lasts about 10 minutes in my Duo 230 and 5 in my Duo 280c. I have three more Duo batteries which BAttery Amnesia wasn't able to fix.

Trying it right now with my original 1996 battery. It used to hold enough of a charge to act as a pram. So if I can get an hour at the longest shot that would be good enough for me. My other two batteries, one holds a 2-3 hr charge depending on what I am doing. The "newest", meaning it came with the pb I just got, wasn't charged so it will get a turn. But it seems like it's worth a try.

yeah...this program is pretty cool, but what you *NEED* to do is use it andd let the battery charge A LONG TIME. The battery was full at 30 minutes being charged, but the powerbook was still feeding power to the battery, I let it charge in sleep overnight, and it worked out very well. I used the program at least four times and it took three FULL days to do this, you really need to make sure the battery is FULLY charged. I also hear a battery's internal cells need to contain around 1.5V per cell at least for them to work properly (the internal computer in the battery) I hear taking 12V (from a AC adaptor) and shock charging the battery may revive a dead battery, but could also kill a dead battery too. I have a 1400cs battery that needs CPR, i'll try this tomorrow. I tried draining a Ni-MH battery by hooking a light bulb up to it for a long time and the battery flatlined. No power to the internal computer = coaster. b

The "new" battery has held a charge for over an hour with out any help from the program. The old battery is still charging. I usually let a reconditioned battery charge a day. SO we'll see.

The actual professional process of conditioning a battery just plain sucks! I have taken a battery that held a one hour charge, pay five dollars and have it only last 40 minutes. Might as well have taken my five dollars, bought a hammer and then tajen a couple whacks to my toes--at least it would hurt less. b

An interesting thing happened while doing the battery stuff. Battery amnesia helped take a five minute 10 year old battery and give it aboot 50 minutes, maybe more with some different power management. Went through four cycles. The "newest" battery to come into my possestion holds a 2 hr charge. But when trying to use the recondition program or amnesia, the machine goes to a blank screen and squeels. Has anyone everhad this happen before. It did it on two different 1400s. (not the super 1400, didn't try).

I have one dead Duo battery that, when I try the amnesia thing, will cause the Duo to squeal and have screen fluctuations. Bateries that do that probably just need to be tossed out.

I had an outstanding battery in my PB 1400, it gave me 2-2 1/2 hours life. Then I forgot the PB was plugged into AC for about a month... battery only gave about 30 minutes. So I ran Apple's battery conditioning program, and now if I try to power up with that battery in the 1400, it (the PB) squeels and the screen does bad flickery things. Is there a possibility anyone knows of to bring back this excellent battery?

Quote from: "dg" Then I forgot the PB was plugged into AC for about a month... battery only gave about 30 minutes. That's odd because by the time the PowerBook 1400 came out, Apple had been using "smart" batteries in PowerBooks for years, which knew when to stop charging a battery, essentially disconnecting it from power, and running the laptop on AC only. You should have been able to just leave your PowerBook plugged in for months on end without affecting the battery in any way. I wonder why it would have done that.
