The System7Today Software Guide is an excellent starting point for System 7 software. Members should always feel free to post comments on the things they do with System 7, and the applications they use to get it done. Members should also feel free to post comments on things they would like to get done with System 7, but have not found the software needed to get it done. I always enjoy reading reviews where people talk of their experiences with software. How it helps them accomplish a task. How it integrates with other aspect of their computing and frustrations they may have with the software's bugs, limitation, or preformance. Such comments are necessary to keep a system viable over the long haul. bill

I see what you're saying. What we're trying to do at System 7 Today is keeping the software section as a list of software we recommend and have personally tested and verified. Also, they are the latest versions (for PowerPC always, and 68k if applicable), do not require appearance manager, and any downloads featured here are hosted here, so no chances of annoying broken links. Of course anyone can feel free to share what they use with System 7. The official lists contain only software that meets the minimum requirements.

I have always used my computer for storage, organization and retrieval. Mostly I work with text, but over time I have added a great many pictures and a lot of music to the mix. I am either cheap or poor depending on who you ask and tend to go with free items that come with the system, free 3rd party items and shareware. My System folder has Speed Doubler, Apple Data Detectors, and OpenDoc added to stock mix. I have used ClarisOrganizer since V1 as my personal information manager. It has become Palm Desktop which I still use. The Claris Organizer database is probably my longest lived data file and is 15+/- years old now. For writing I use SimpleText. Spell checking is handled by SpellTools from Newer. When the need arises for formatting for paper printer, I copy the text into ClarisWorks. On a laptop I am fond of Nisus Compact. For images I have used iView MultiMedia since its release. It is an excellent and powerful image organizer. For the longest time I did any image editing with the software that came with the Scanner or Cameras I used. Evenutally I got the most expensive software I have ever purchased and started using CorelDraw Suite 8. I can handle photo editing, page layout and drawing tasks. For sound I started with a resedit hacked version of Simple Sound that could record unlimited length recordings. I moved onto Coaster for recording. Jam or whatever it is called from Toast is also installed for recording. I use Sound Jam, but overall I much perfer something simpler and use Sound Strip, which simply plays through the files in a folder and has no real inferface. For whatever reason I have always like messing around with DOS, and have used a variety of emulators and at times have had DOS NuBus and PCI cards installed. My internet suite has always been Cyberdog from Apple. Baton furnishes authentication for email so I can still use it easily for that. I enjoy the integrated aspects of OpenDoc, and have Wav word processor, Corda Notebook, an image editor and a spreadsheet installed. In honesty my day to day needs are met on Dual processor Gigabit ethernet running 10.4.9. This has allowed for a great deal more freedom in what I experiment with in OS 7. And I have enjoyed installed some powerfull software from that era that had been beyond my means at the time. This software has included PhotoShop 3, HyperCard 2.3, Office 98, PageMaker and many other titles I come across. That is about it. bill

Might be nice to have a secondary list linked from the main of "user submissions" that people at this site have found to be helpful. Rather than maintain two separate lists I would suggest to keep the website's list as the predominant one and link to a secondary list of "additional user submissions." That way members of the website – whose collective knowledge and experience will generally be greater – can contribute to each other. I am posting in the suggestions forum and linking back to this thread. As Always, The Bandit

I have introduced mech warrior 2 to my youngest. Mech warrior runs very well under system 7.6. The 7100 also does a much better job with the 400Mhz g3 than the old 601/80Mhz. What a cool game.
