nah 1999 is only great for nostalgia practically speaking the best hardware and the most reliable long term is that with solid state storage and no optical internal drives why? less heat output less moving part's that will inevitably break after 20+ year's of use and so on... probably the first thing i would do with a pc/mac that old is gut the dvd drive and zip/floppy and replace all drive's with solid state storage i would put in a newer psu that is quieter and replace every cap with solid state capacitor's and max out the ram with brand new purple ram module's hook up a modern cheap lcd display with a large 1024x768 resolution or higher  and use a usb to adb adapter in conjunction with a modern wireless keyboard and mouse replace the casing with new 3d printed casing if its a crt based mac from the 80's i would replace the crt with a LCD or OLED display if i got a external scsi drive i would mod it to use a solid state sd card based solution same goes for paralell all in the name of preservation and longevity :D
Happy new year to you all whats your resolutions for this year ;D
mines too focus on actually beating more games especially with final fantasy and mario i play the first 20 hours then get distracted by something else...

Prospero año y felicidad!

I heard someone recently reminding that resolutions don't have to be giving things up, but can be fun!  Start watching a new show each month!  Try a new kind of ethnic food!  Play a game you like ALL the way to completion!   Anything else you've "never gotten around to".  etc etc etc.

Boy a quarter of this century is already gone. Time flys when you are having fun. And I hope everyone has a fun year.

@SNES1423: lol, I meant the spirit of remembering the dreams of entering the 21st Century with a fresh perspective, and indeed, tech continues to soar in that new era, and remember that emulation brought a blend of old and new, older software operating in newer gear; and with the exception of the  USB wireless keyboard and DVD burner, my ‘05 mini could be as new as you mention (well and the newer RAM I imagine, but it’s of course also maxed out for OS 9, my target boot OS on the mini (unless I use Classic Mac Environment in OS X)

Happy new year everyone! I plan for this to be the year that I finally finish the schematics for my homebrew computer. I got close. I picked it back up in December last year (feels weird to think of 2024 as last year already), but I didn't finish it.

I'll try to get it done this month, since I have the momentum going :D Good luck to everyone on their projects this year!

It was Woz who is my single-most inspiration for designing computers. Probably the same for most people haha.
