I can't believe I never thought of this before, but... Internet Explorer's CSS implementation is incomplete, buggy, and as you all may have noticed, very very slow. By simply turning it off, suddenly tons of pages load very fast, and the information on them is actually readable now. True, this will make many CSS-heavy pages display as long pages of text and images, but if you think about it, that is how most web sites were back in 1997, so it actually fits very well with the vintage computing nostalgia! In Internet Explorer 5, go to "Preferences" in the Edit menu, and select the "Web Content" preference panel. Uncheck "Show style sheets" to turn it off. You can always turn it back on again, of course, by re-checking it. This will have the same effects in other browsers as well, although I still recommend you use Internet Explorer. |

Loads just fine in normal mode here...almost no wait maybe its because of my 400Mhz G3  b

Well of course, but not only is IE's CSS support slow, its very incomplete too, so a lot of CSS-heavy pages will display so poorly, the information on them cannot even be read. http://www.myspace.com/danpalka is a good example of how IE can make some CSS-heavy pages completely useless. Besides, even when my PowerBook ran at 466mhz, IE still felt slow loading things.

Holy crap! I never thought disabling CSS would make these pages look so good, it is noticeably faster now though. I almost, on several occasions Dan, mentioned CSS and IE's lack of full function. I have a website (somewhere) and after discking with CSS scripts for a long time, I just gave up trying to make it look good with IE. Good Tip though.

Browser Central now has instructions for turning of CSS in Netscape 4.8, IE 5, iCab, and Opera 5.
