So with the advent of GL.inet travel routers, I'm envisioning connecting two old Macs via Ethernet over the web :D

This makes using any of the old school ibooks and Mac Minis a viable option; ibooks for the road and Minis for the house; I know, they'd be running OS 9 most likely, and '04 G4 models can be had for about $75-100 with working power bricks in the US that can be made to run OS 9 natively with I think some sort of sound issue, but that's the big performance hit. Again, this goes back to the homeschooling project I want to do this coming year, and these beauties may be the winning ticket with good OS 9 OS X compatibility. The Achilles heel here I think is the batteries (unless something could be worked out there? maybe removing the batteries altogether and sticking a special powerful rechargeable mini power bank with an AC adapter outlet for the power adapter and maybe with an outward-facing USB-C port? (sounds like a nice 3D-printing project)
