Not sure if you guys have seen this but looks like a little come back of the demo scene - a new 2024 demo "Some Years Ago" has been released for the Mac! It's aiming at owners of a System 7 52XX/53XX/62XX/63XX Power Mac, but others can run it too with some modifications. Check out the comments on the respective Mac Garden page. Are scene demos something that interest(ed) you ? |

They interested me on more proprietary hardware, like the Atari ST, STe, Falcon and the Amiga. Demos on the Mac is not really the same thing since they usually don't "talk" directly to the hardware but instead use whatever graphics API that does the job. Still cool, though!

I have followed the Demo scene for years,I especially like the PC demos that are as small as 64K one of my favorite group are Farbrausch, they did a demo called Fr-08 "The Product" compressed down to 64K, The Commodore 64 was also a popular PC for the Demo scene. Christopher.

It's a little hard to tell, but this demo does seem designed to make use of part of the proprietary hardware using the Valkyrie chip in some 5200/6200 class machines to do some clever hardware scaling of pixels. But the fact that people are reporting running it on SheepShaver either means it doesn't entirely, or, more likely, has a fallback if your machine doesn't have that chip (or a closely related one). I was able to run it on qemu, but aren't sure it is displaying correctly...will compare on a real 6200 and other hardware later.
