Neal! So good to have you back! We've been missing you! :-)

Good to hear about your SE/30 adventures - hope you can get it working this time. Last time we talked I felt like you were about to throw the thing out of the window! ;-)

Well, you've got quite some stuff to read up ...

P.S. I split this post from the other thread in order keep things tidy.

Thanks for the kind words. I missed you too. I just so frustrated with it failing and with a new job. I literally packed it away. But today I did set it my room again, took out all the bluescsi, cards. Not worked out how to format a blank hhd yet but was nice to get it and my iMac g3 back out. Bit of learning to do again. Hopefully I’ll get the old girl up and running again. :)

Give it another try! The SE/30 is a finicky beast, but once you've got it running, it's an awesome fun retro system! As knezzen said, you may also use your iMac G3 to join our Hotline server and we can live chat you through setting it up :-)

Definitely will get back online. Busy week as I’m on annual from Thursday onwards for 10 days with nothing planned bar setting them up. I also now have a 2012 iMac to help me along in my endeavors:)

Hey! Welcome back, Neal; we missed you, buddy! :)

I'm glad you got back to it; I know older Macs can be quite something when things don't work the way you'd hoped, but where there's a will, and a Mac ;) there's always got to be a way, so hang in there my friend!

To quote knezzen last week: "Everything can be fixed".

That's the nice part about these old machines, you can virtually fix nearly everything with some time / dedication (or money).

So, don't give up. You'll eventually get there and have some incredibly fun moments at your SE/30 :)

Thanks. finally after a busy bank holiday. I have the next 2-3 days to play around with getting it all up and running. I still have a working blue scsi but it stops all the other scsi devices from working. especially my Zip drives and I love using those plus all my se/30 software is on zip.  I have one of those hacked Simms with 7.1 inbuilt with 8mb on it which I couldn't use on 7.5.5 without res editing code in 7.5.3 first. so I want to put that in too. good excuse to have both 7.1. & 7.5.5 on the machine.

Ok 4 hours later my usb cheap china floppy drive doesn’t work. Won’t initiate any floppy disks. Tried 20 odds disks on my 2012 iMac (sierra) and my g3 iMac in both 9.2 & 10.3.9 so not a great start. I’ve just ordered an original teac usb drive from the g3 era. Hopefully that should fit the issue. I made a disk image of sc hd setup ok and put on disk copy 4.2 on my g3 all fine. Just a bit of a delay :/

blow me down. my early 2000 ebay usb floppy drive arrived today and works just fine. after 2 cheap Chinese floppy drives not working and stopping my progress. I'm currently initialising my HHD with your apple HD setup.

Excellent way forward already. Hd formatted, 7.1 installed, Zip drive installed and working.
It’s a start. I’ve also downloaded additions from system7today.  So I’m using my intel iMac to download, network shared to my g3 iMac, then copied to floppy on my new/old USB floppy drive. Bingo. I can’t believe it was the floppy drive/s all along. Well that and the bluescsi not working with any other external SCSI devices.

Plan is to upgrade it to 7.5.3, install the Rominator. Res edit and up it to 7.5.5.
Attempt to install the Diimo if i haven’t fried it.

Then finally pop on a bunch of software. Setup the macman and midi, use that mpeg radio thing. Likely take a while.

Congratulations, Neal! One step after another :-)

Why 7.5.x on a SE/30?

Btw, your iMac G3 is more than capable to browse S7T. You can download everything from System 7 Today directly from your iMac G3, no need for a modern machine. :-)

Was somewhat annoying that 2 none branded floppy drives just didn’t work but hey ho. At least the ebay one works.
Only managed to get an extra few bits done as I spent the last 3 days decorating the hall and stairs and landing.
As for the g3 haha yes I can use it for this site if I had a browser on it lol  I had to make a new account to get the network sharing working for Mac garden downloads from my 2012 imac onto my g3, from there to floppy. Not got around to putting a bowser on it yet. Been concentrating getting the additions from system7today and Mac garden for my se/30. Long story short the g3 has a a network password from previous owner. No idea what it is so setup a new account just to allow sharing.
I did download 7.5.3 but I need to format 19 floppy disks first and a bit tired after 3 full days decorating. They’re in .dsk format. Not something I’ll seen that format before so not sure if I need to image them first.

Why 7.5.5. That’s my favorite and is best for browser support. I’ll pop in my Rominator rom simm which has 7.1 on there so I’ll have the best of both worlds :)
