@cballero I'm not sure what exact model is my PB G3, I got two of them as spare parts and taken some pieces from each to make a fully functional one. So my PB is just a sort of Frankenstain :-) but it works. Unfortunately screen hinges doesn't keep the monitor up without a support :-( @lauland I've already known about the XO hidden feature of the Classic, very cool :-) isn't it?. I replaced the original HD SCSI with a SCSI2SD but I miss that typical sound. Since there was enough room in the SD card I made 2 partitions to dual boot Systems 6 and 7 but when my Classic boots with the latter, it seems to be a bit sluggish so I prefer System 6 in that model. @Neal_SE30 I got the suggestion from another user on Facebook some years ago. I didn't realized before that the meaning of "form factor"' and the fact that on some models their logic boards can be swapped each other. In this case the "compromised" 5260 has become a great 68k Macintosh that works finer (in my opinion). I forgot to mention my Macintosh LC III because it doesn't work anymore. I suspect an issue in the logic board so I keep it in on shelf hoping to find a solution and repair it in the future. Before this failure, the LC III had also a problem on the battery PRAM (solved later) and it was unable to keep RTC and all other settings and this was annoying to me. So after some research I developed a system extension that save the PRAM contents to disk when shutting down and restore them at system boot if the current RTC value is older then the value saved on disk. Similar to the Raspian OS on Raspberry PI. This was my first (and the only one at the moment :-) ) development on the Macintosh. Of course not all from my head but it has been very exiting to me making this. Developed in Think Pascal 68k but it works on PPC also. |

I traveled with a Classic II, and that Mac too had a Mac OS in its ROM! I was a bit too heavy-handed with it where I merely tried setting a different background pattern, after doing so and rebooting, the Mac failed to boot from its built-in system folder! ![]() So every so often, share that sad tale, an example of pushing the limits of our Macs just a bit too far

Oh yeah, the "sluggables" from way back when. I couldn't handle those anymore. Remarkable how old age forces us to optimize in the "gravity department".

Lol! It was my school 'all-in-one' when I went to school overseas for a year. I ended-up selling it on my return, and since I was going to school at night, I did get a job working with Macs, so it was easy to sell, plus my work gave me what I liked to a 'small' 'pizza-box' Quadra 605, which was my first '040 LC Mac with the same processing power as the Quadra 700 (another one of my favorite early Macs, nicknames 'Shadow' and the 'IIce'; oh yeah! I used to totally 'nerd-out' on Mac specs back then!) to take back home, so that was a much lighter carry back!I had forgotten that I also had a 605 68k Mac!! Some called it the LC IV, that could boot as from System 7.1! ![]() The Quadras were all the zippiest 68k Macs, and I could only dream of having the Quadra 840AV from the System 7.1-era; at work, I even remember the day that we tested out a Quadra 660AV with a professional broadcast-grade video camera along with its built-in software, and possibly the Media 100 or another competing solution for 68k Macs that worked with its on-board 55 MHz AT&T 3210 DSP AV chip; that thing rocked the house that day with its built-in media capabilities for sure!

That swapped out 5260 is even more cool the more I think about it. Because you've got a 68k mac in a form factor Apple didn't release...and it's an all in one! Do you know if the 630 motherboard works in the 6400 case? ---- My first job post college I was given an SE/30-in-a-backpack to lug around...it was a challenge, but was in shape enough to carry it back then, and was just thrilled to have my own Mac wherever I wanted it! Now I've got a Classic and two Classic II's and have a project to resurrect them as a single working machine (One of the Classic II's came with the same analog board as the Classic). Been meaning to make it a weekend thing but keep putting it off! The Classic needs recapping, which'll I may never get to since it's so slow, but one of the Classic II's worked fine for a while but now won't start with a hard drive connected...90% sure it's bad solder joints on all three analog boards... Wish I had an SE/30 instead, but I've got these guys to fix! Among others... ---- Very cool you wrote that time setting extension! Even if not from scratch, few are brave enough to tackle init's!

I brought my colour classic to college everyday, sluggable yes but back then being able to take your computer with you was still amazing. Somehow it seemed fine and a colour crt was way better than early lcd. now I complain about having a large phone, how times have changed lol Funny thing is my phone screen isn’t much smaller than my compact screen could manage. Ha have my se/30 laudland it’s constantly got something to fix :/ humm Looks nice though

Quote from: lauland Do you know if the 630 motherboard works in the 6400 case?I'm not sure but I think it could. When I received the 6400 with the external case broken, at first I thought to put its logic board inside the 5260 case (so it'd turned back to be a PPC Mac) but the backplate is higher and I'd had to modify the 5260 external case so I gave up. So the 630 logic board inside the 6400 case should fits and the internal edge connector seems to be the same, but I never tried this configuration.

Ciao Marco! Welcome to our friendly little community! garambo is also from Italy, and also a software developer. That makes two of you already. Italian takeover of S7T? Let it happen! :-D One of the nicest things about developing for System 7 (or Mac OS in general) is that it is frozen. There will be no more fundamental changes to the Toolbox breaking things. Whatever you program today will still run on System 7 in 50 years. (try that with Windows or macOS ....)
