Hello everyone at S7T! I'm actually an Apple ][ guy – I host WOzFest (which features Macs at times, as well as occasionally non-Apples), but I was a Mac user from 1984 (when I used a 128K at senior high school to produce the school newsletter), through having a Plus at home from late '85, a career as a Desktop Publisher for 10 years (on and off Macs, but always using macs at home if not at work), then a Mac consultant from 1997-2018. Had a complete career change in 2018, and haven't used Macs at work since (except my home iMac when working from home). I sold my Mac collection a few years back as I wasn't even getting to spend as much time as I wanted to my Apple ][s, and haven't really done much with retro Macs since. Until #MARCHintosh 2024 came along and I started to dabble in the GlobalTalk network via emulation. My story on that is contained in several blog posts on my site, I won't repeat it here. But I will say I have enjoyed playing around with the emulated Quadra 800 in QEMU, System 7.1 and Apple Internet Router. So I thought I'd look for a sticky menu extension because, well, why wouldn't I?, which is how I ended up here (finding much more of interest besides), and I decided to jump into the Forums, look around, share tips and tricks if useful, and just relive those wonderful early days of the Mac again. Appreciate the work of everyone who has pulled this site together, sysadmins, mods, contributors – thanks for making something immediately useful and interesting! Hope to catch up with you all as I can, I won't be a constant or prolific poster, but I hope to keep an eye on things and make some contributions. Talk soon, Sean/europlus |

Howdy Sean! we are most happy to have you join our little Mac group I for one am definitely excited to hear about your new 'QEMU-fied' Mac exploits for sure! And yes, it's all about the big and small contributions, the camaraderie, helping each other achieve just a little more, and even simple timing! And don't mind if I go peruse some of your MARCHintosh blogs as well, as they might even fall into an area of interest that I have been exploring lately!

Welcome Sean, great to have you here! Thanks for your introduction and your kind words about System 7 Today, I've got really a couple of questions now that I'd love to fire away in your direction :-) The Apple ][ has always been a mystery machine to me, which I never got to explore. Maybe we should set up an Apple ][ thread in the forum and talk some? Would you share some of your knowledge with us? I can also relate to what you were talking about in terms of collection and selling it off - there is only so much time one can spend with a machine. And unless you really focus on just a few (that's 2-3 for me), you'll never really get to use them. So I'm always advocating to get two machines you really enjoy and then work on and with them - but never more. :-) Sure hope you'll stick around and contribute to our friendly little community! (and eventually find that you should get a real System 7 Mac for the fun of it!)

Lol, would Mac OS 8 on my G3 Beige desktop count as a System 7 device, Bolkonskij? ![]() Come to think of it, I suppose that I could try to dual boot my PowerBook 2400c into System 7, couldn't I? I would need to install it using floppies? Well, I suppose I could also try to boot it from and external Orb or possibly Zip drive and add the folder that way (or even easier, just add the folder manually via a network share or browser download and bless it, making sure it will boot properly first) since I don't have a CD-ROM drive for it. We do have a lot of fun breaking and fixing stuff around here!

Quote Lol, would Mac OS 8 on my G3 Beige desktop count as a System 7 device, Bolkonskij? It's like a cousin. Not really the inner circle of the family, but yeah. Not quite the same thing as a real good System 7 Mac though :-) And yes, the lovely PowerBook 2400c sounds like a prime candidate for 7.6.1 ;-)
