You're most welcome!

I tried out various spreadsheets half a year ago, also have fond memories of using Lotus 1-2-3.
Happened to notice and read your "Recommended version of Excel for 68k / System 7?" thread.
Hope this Storeys spreadsheet lives up to your expectations :)

So — speaking of spreadsheets — I was looking everywhere for Mariner's v3.14 spreadsheet all to no avail, and I was shocked to find that not only did I not find any trace of it in all of the usual online dl spots — it doesn't help that ftp sites have been disappearing faster than you can say  'cheese', but I came up completely empty as far a copy of it :(

Hey cbone, yes! The more new retro projects -the better! :D

Mariner version 1 & 2 was shareware. Mariner v.3, was sold commercially in Japan but never in the states -until it got updated to v3.14 for US release.
Nothing left on marinersoft.com -neither v. 5.2, so I went to Japan.
Pascal Ltd. changed websites several times, but did offer download links from site -besides ftp. But -nothing left behind.

http://web.archive.org/web/19991005044222/http://www.pascal.co.jp/techsupport/release/981102.html
http://web.archive.org/web/19990428150826/http://www.pascal.co.jp/techsupport/softlib.html

Pascal Ltd. postponed the release of its multilingual spreadsheet software for Apple Macintosh, "Mariner-J Ver. 4.0," to February 26, 1999.
The reason for the delay was that the development process increased due to the addition of the following features that were not originally planned:
1) Support for Mac OS 8.5 Navigation Service.
2) Addition of the ability to fix row/column width/height,
which was overwhelmingly requested by users.
3) Added 12 functions to improve file compatibility with MS Excel (total 114).

The main new features of Ver.4.0 are as follows:
1 · A modern interface that matches the Mac OS 8.5 era.
2 · Supports Mac OS 8.5 appearance.
3 · Stylized text can now be set to multiple fonts, font sizes, and styles within the same cell.
4 · By installing a Language Kit compatible with WorldScript I/II and Mac OS 8.5 on your system, you can use multiple languages within the same document or cell.
5 · The interface of the graph function has been completely redesigned and the number of graph types has been increased to 15: line, vertical bar, horizontal bar, composite (stock price/vertical bar), stacked bar, composite (line/vertical bar), pie, 3D pie, 3D vertical bar, stock price, stacked area, donut, radar, 3D horizontal bar, and ribbon (3D line).
6 · Cell formatting options include hiding zero values for each cell, displaying negative values in red/enclosing them in parentheses/adding a triangle, and specifying custom labels.
7vWorksheets can be spell-checked for European languages. The dictionary can be shared with Pascal Write Ver. 2.0, so spell-checking is possible for major European languages as well as English.
8 · Unique virtual memory allows you to edit files larger than the allocated memory size.
9 · Equipped with an autofill function that allows you to automatically enter consecutive data by drag and drop or via a dialog.
10 · Ability to set password protection for files.
11 · The included language module allows you to instantly switch menus and dialogs between Japanese and English.
12 · Equipped with a dynamic scrolling function that allows you to drag the scroll box and move the displayed range of the worksheet in real time.
13 · When worksheet windows are split, a title lock function is now available that allows you to fix the top or left window as the title.

Compatibility:
- Macintosh/Power Macintosh/iMac series with 68030, 68040 or PowerPC processor or equivalent compatible machine (68040 or higher recommended)
- KanjiTalk 7.1/Mac OS 7.6 or higher, Mac OS 8.5 compatible
- Language Kit for each language (when using in a multilingual environment)
- AppleGuide recommended
- 680x0 series: 2MB, PowerPC series: 3MB or more of free memory
- Minimum 10MB of free HD

Knowing the filename helped in locating a copy.

Download
Mariner-J 4.0.1 68K Demo
Mariner-J 4.0.1 PPC Demo
links changed to http -may have to copy the link and paste into new browser

Downloads always scanned with Agax, Disinfectant, and Virex, prior to linking -as usual.

It says J -but it’s both -see paragraph 11 under features.
Screenshot

The demo version does not save files. Reach out to sidd for a fix ;)

Wow Cashed! :o and all I wanted to do was provide Bolkonskij another cool spreadsheet option 8) but was bummed to see that this one had virtually disappeared from the face of the earth, until your honing expertise zeroed in and found it! I'll definitely reach out to Sidd for a hand in getting it to run without any constraints! Thanks for that awesome find, as always! :D

Now for a tiny bit of sad news: I looked everywhere for a Filemaker 4.1 ISO image, either of the updater or the full program, including a disk I had collected or bought on eBay a while ago, but I stopped short of imaging and uploading it because because Mike had found a Mac copy of it, which was totally awesome!

The thing is, now I'm not sure if the disk I can't find had both Windows and Mac versions, and I got a nagging feeling it just might have; and even on places like Archive.org, or even eBay, Amazon and the like, there's no trace of any copy anywhere; well at least for now :( I know it's a small piece of the whole product, especially since the Win version of 4.0 is available, so I guess I shouldn't be too down about it.

Mariner software was based in Minneapolis Minnesota somewhere around 2010 the moved to Osseo, Minnesota. (sorry for always promoting my home state.) I think Mariner Write and Mariner Calc were in house projects, but they were also software publishers.

Mariner Write and Mariner Calc were very easy to use applications. The were noted for being quite snappy. They focused on basic core functions with the more esoteric features being left out. Mariner Write was often compared to FullWrite(?). Mariner Write and Mariner Calc did get an OS X release. Bean a freeware but closed source long time and current word processor for OS X reminds me of Mariner Write.

Mariner Software also released MacJournal, which although called a Journal is quite similar to Zim on Linux/BSD. It is mostly just a notebook application, but has a toggled Journal function which creates RTF notes using the current date as the title and keeping the journal notebook organized by date. They also released StoryMill, which was designed as a writers aide for creating novels, screen plays and such. They also had a recipe manager and a receipt manager that would scan and sort receipts using OCR to move found data directly into your finance application.

Mariner Calc was released for the iPhone and sold through the App Store. They seem to have disappeared around 2020. MacJournal was released back to its author and is still available for OS X. Their software was popular in Japan and I do not know whether that was by design or just a happy accident.
