The Final Fantasy 1 for NES's decompiled source code is out there on github from the decompilation if someone were to take this code which was built for a system with a 6502 similar to the Apple II i would bet it could run on any mac with at least a color screen like the Macintosh II! -snes1423 |

It could probably. And leaving the copyright issue (which is big) aside, I assume it holds considerable parts written in 6502 assembler which would be a PITA to get onto the Mac. Not saying it can't be done, but it's tons of work and I don't see why someone would want to do that if you can just emulate the game decently even on a 68k Macintosh. If you're looking for something to easily port over, look for something either written in plain C / Pascal or even RealBasic for that matter.

Echoing on this: fan interest can only get you so far. It may be easier to find projects already being developed and support those; otherwise, it's like learning from salmon and trout that migrate the vast oceans then swim upstream just to nest: a model of perseverance. Seeing how practical a quest is is more than half of the battle and it's far easier if it's not a quest of one

Just an addendum, because I don't want to be someone who shoots down ideas :-) If you like Final Fantasy, why don't you make your own @snes? There are adventure creators out there that allow the creation of your own adventures. Many of which don't require programming skills or just involve simple scripting. You could either build your version of Final Fantasy specifically for the Macintosh - or an entire new adventure. I'd head over to the Macintosh Garden and check out what it has to offer.

I am rather into doing new stuff with vintage systems. I am working on a few multimedia projects (videos/macromedia) and once I'm done I'll try to find a space where to post those. PS: I am trying really hard to get JFK not to mess it all up with Fidel. But it ain't ez.

Nice, care to elaborate a bit further as for what projects those are? Sounds like it'd be worthy of its own thread! Re: JFK - Fidel? Gosh, I'm still knee-deep in the Vietnam debacle :-D ... let's do some after-action report in the JFK thread, shall we?

I plan to start small, with some auto-generated 3D scenery and limited, linear movement. Then I'll work my way up from there. I've installed enough plug-ins to photoshop and animate my way right back onto Babylon V, but it has been years since I last did 3D animation.
