Often times it's just good-ol' bragging rights ;) i.e., "oh yeah, check this out!" then you proceed to show off how a "dinosaur" Mac is able to talk to the latest ChatGPT bot!

I saw this at MG and got a huge kick out of it:

@m68k is certainly a unique thinker!  Would've never thought of even trying asking it about vintage stuff!

I've been avoiding AI hype like the plague, it's felt a bit like the VR hype.  My brother was all "Look I asked it to make me a travel itinerary!" and I'm like, "And you actually TRUST the places and times it quotes are real?!?".

Although extremely open minded, I've become a bit of a curmudgeon as I've become greyer and greyer, and my beard has grown longer and longer, and anytime there's a craze about ANYTHING I take it as a sign to stay away...at least until the hype dies down.  (Gluten!  Kale!  Almond milk!  Paleo!  3D TV's!  Dubstep!  The Wolf Cut!)  But it looks like this one won't be just going away...even if it ends up taking a more sane form, and people realize it isn't a panacea.

I might have to try asking it to help with some tricky Classic programming problems and see what happens...

Back in June 2024, also using LegacyAI, I had tried to have it teach or assist me with AppleScript, as well, but it turns out the AI was so incompetent at writing it, confounding OS X AppleScript with Mac OS AppleScript no matter my input, that it was quicker to learn AppleScript myself and get things done by my own hands.

The end result was this CodeWarrior plug-in which allows you to uncomment code in CodeWarrior for C, C++, Pascal and Java:

For ANSI C89, it was mostly a different experience, though: it would make some massive mistakes and contradict itself from time to time, but it was A LOT better at it than it was with Mac OS AppleScript. The latter is just abysmal. So abysmal, that it infuriated me enough to go and learn it, so I guess we can say it actually helped? :)
