Ok this is both funny and amazing!

Bolle’s tricked out se/30 playing doom https://imgur.io/a/3vjBnxY

This shouldn’t be possible. I believe this has bolle’s custom (reversed engineered) 68040 accelerated board and rare as hens teeth greyscale adaptor on a fully tricked out se/30. Amazing to see on an se/30

Can't view the https link here on System 7 unfortunately, but I'm pretty sure it looks ...fascinating :-D

Does Wolfenstein actually run on a SE/30 too? That should be more era appropiate. I think it ran on my stock Mac IIci, though not really fast or smooth. But - playable!

Still, very cool effort by one of the few hardware creators in the community :)

Yes it’s pretty terrible in b&w but amazing it actually works and framerate isn’t to bad at all, actually playable by the looks of it. The link is a new website so probably have to run it through your phone. Works fine when i just tried it.

Yes I believe he reversed engineered the fastest graphics card for vintage macs and made it even better so it’s running a 68040 combo with l2 cache and all sorts so mine couldn’t run either. He sent one to action retro of frogfinder fame and it looks amazing. Built in modern networking, pass through etc

I would like a modern 10/100 network card. Part of the problem i find with my old card is it’s so slow. Your IIci i imagine has much better nubus options? I have a great full fibre internet with average 230mbps but the se/30 still only manages something close to a 56k modem speeds. I had to tweak the settings and run it through a package switching router and a aui transceiver just to make it work.  my card is a very early one. I shouldn’t complain as it was already in the machine when i brought it so the guy had no idea so £60 for s working se/30 with networking was a bargain.

That's more of a DMA and 16mhz 68030 problem I would say. With a faster CPU you will see higher speeds as well :)

My IIci "tops out" at 70kb / sec max. download speed, that's for a 68030 at 40 Mhz. That seems pitiful today, but imagine back in the day ... mindblowing speed.

I think the issue is also that we tend to download huge (by comparison) files today. Back in the 90's, you thought twice about clicking that download link for a 3 MB update file ...

I imagine a bit of both, the 68030 especially in 16mhz form was from a pre internet/Multimedia time so yes agree it’s partly a hardware issue. also the internet was a different place. I can remember downloading my first track from a p2p on a 33kb modem, it crashed a lot and took an entire evening but i was still amazed i could download music for free. The following day i managed to find a download manager and my world changed forever
