Time for an update, because I'm the proud new owner of a 1980's Aimor 103FS radio, which accompanies my Mac IIci now: http://revontulet.org/2022/08/28/aimor.jpg Got this from a neighbor for free. He was about to throw it into the trashbin. Radio and tape deck work fine. I assume at one point I'll have to replace the parts that wear out (rubber) but otherwise this one should be good to go. It's really heavy compared to modern stuff, the sturdy metal case and metal knobs (!) can sure take a beating. Comes with a battery compartment too. Will be useful with the upcoming power outtages during winter :-D I'll kind of use it as a peripheral to my Macintosh IIci. Since the 68k Mac can't stream web radio, I'll be using the Aimor for music and getting my daily shot of government propaganda. I did a quick web search but there isn't a whole lot of info on these ones. I figured there ought to be collectors for these things (there are collectors for everything, aren't there?) but little info was to be found. Would like to know more about the manufacturing date and tech specs. I bet this thing still has thumb-sized capacitors! :-D Let's see for how long it'll accompany me. Can't be younger than 1992, so it's at least 30 years old at this point. WTG, Aimor! |

Quote from: Bolkonskij " our classic Macs aside - what retro tech do you still use? "Still in daily use since 1985, a Panasonic theGenius, Dimension 4 microwave/convection oven. Tho' these days the daily use is mainly reheating beverages gone cold. Here's an old ad for said beastie - and no, it's not a pretty sight ![]() Haven't had the heart to retire it after all this time, it's an heirloom ![]()

My 10 year old Casio Protrek watch with compass, altimeter, barometer and nifty track store but *no* smartwatch/phone hookup of any kind. It has a built in solar cell charger, so it doesn't need a base station, is water proof and just keeps running and running and running w/o any software updates.
