Ok, this is totally off-topic Mac-unrelated. I had originally posted this on CQII but thought it deserves a post here as well.

I just had the weirdest thing happen ever and I need to share it with someone. Wife is still at work, so it's you guys.

My neighbor rang at my door just about an hour ago. She and us have a good relationship, lots of chit-chat when we're in our gardens and we both saw our kids grow up.

This time, however, she's standing there in front of my door. I can see she is all shaken-up (her chin is bursting with emotions). I say "hey, what's up? All fine?" and she tells me that she is so disappointed in me and that she likes me but that this really hurts. I'm completely taken by surprise. A real "What the ...?" moment.

"What's going on?" I ask her. I really had absolutely NO IDEA what she was talking about. And then she starts explaining to me that it's an absolute no-go that I put our common fence under current. I'm like "WHAT? Are you serious?" and she goes on to explain that she just wanted to eat a berry from a bush in her garden next to our fence and got an electrocution. Guys, I'm not making this up!!

I was baffled. I didn't know what to say. "But I didn't! Why would I do that!?". She wasn't responding. Then after a few seconds she mumbled: "I'm so disappointed in you".

I told her to follow me, went to the fence, touched it in front of her eyes to prove it's just an ordinary fence. No shock. "You just switched it off". I was really trying to understand what's going on.

"Do you see any energy source anywhere here that could provide current!?". No immediate response. Then she says something like "I know that you also do jobs for them". That was the moment I thought that she can't be normal anymore. Either she's on drugs or hallucinating or both. I asked what jobs and for whom but she took off to her house and put down the blinds on the side to our house, as if to show our good neighborhood relationship is over.

This is about one of the weirdest experiences I ever had. Took me completely by surprise.

Anyone else having any good neighbor story to share?

Talked to her neighbor on the other side (two houses from us). An older couple. That lady told me that about a week ago a UPS van drove up to their house. UPS guy got out with a parcel for her and rings. She opens the door to take the parcel when the crazy neighbor storms out of her door, asking why she'd take on HER parcel and demanded it to be handed over.

The neighbor two doors down the street was as perplexed as I was yesterday. "But look, it has my name written on the label!". She showed it to her, but she only reluctantly seemed to believe it. No excuse, she just ran off again.

Then later the evening the crazy one rang at their door at 10pm to complain that they supposedly do something (didn't fully get the accusation) in their basement that sets off all fire alarms at the crazy neighbor's house. How can you even remotely believe that to be true? It defies all logic.

Neigbor in the house next door stuffed his cellar full of tires and flamables. Three days ago a fire broke out that could have torched the whole block.

Now, how crazy is that?!

I thank the fire department for their quick response in sweltering heat!

I'd give that its own label, like crazy-dumb. Not psycho-crazy like the lady next door. Though no less frightening ... :-X

Btw - next day my neighbor was working in her Garden. When she saw me, she came up. I was expecting either an attack or an apology, but nothing. Instead, she acted like nothing had happened and asked me if she could borrow a tool of mine for the afternoon. I asked her right away: "Feeling better today?" She nodded.

I don't know what to make of this. My wife is scared now, won't let the kids go next to her place. (lord knows what ideas she might get when in psycho mode) We heard rumors she's planning to move out, she just rented the place. Let's see how this turns out.

lol :D thanks for sharing and the laugh -scary as it may be.
Sounds like she's psychotic and not medicated well enough.
The reality of a psychotic person is as real as ours and you cannot
convince them that what they are experiencing isn't real.

Yeah I've had some wacko neighbors too

During the fire the dude who lives upstairs came running down half naked (serioulsy, no shirt, no socks, but pants - thank God for that) and kept jumping in and out of the crowd of firemen and police. Thing is, he couldn't have seen anything from where he lives (unless he started the fire himself) but he acted like he was the most important witness on-site.

The guy is a drunkard and gets wasted regularly. On one such occasion he left an angry note on the house letterbox:

"Someone tries to steal my mail regularly. I know for I can see how bent the door of my mailbox is. I've seen one of you peek in my mailslot and if I catch you there will be hell to pay!!"

Thing is, his door has been dented like this for years and there are just 6 families living here anyway. None of whom care for the mail of an alcoholic on welfare.

A friend of my mother's says that the drunkard broke the door himself, having lost the key one day. In any case someone called the landlord and the note was gone within 24 hours. :O

Do office/workplace neighbors count?

About 20 years ago, I worked in an office in NYC.  I occupied a cubicle directly in front of the office of one of our salesmen - we'll call him Fred.  He traveled extensively and was rarely in his office.  When he was, he was nice enough, said hello in the hallways, and I knew him to have friendly relationships with many in the company.  One morning came news that Fred had been arrested for theft.  The story was that he was at some social event, had a bit too much to drink, jokingly took something that belonged to the host that was quite valuable, and the host later pressed charges.  At this time, our company was in the process of being acquired by a larger, well-known Wall Street company.  A reporter caught wind of Fred' arrest, and a story showed up in the press linking him to our company and to the larger firm.  While I think he wound up returning the item and paying damages, I believe the bad press cost Fred his job.

Fast forward to about 5 years later... I was at home one day when the phone rang.  On the other end was a researcher/fact-checker from the New York Times.  She said she was checking the story they were about to publish about Fred and asked if I could share any recollections I had of him.  She assumed I knew which story she was talking about.  I asked her what the story was.  Fred had been arrested in another state for murdering a woman he had been dating.  I told the researcher I had not heard and really had nothing to offer, only that I had worked in the same office.  A phone call to an old coworker confirmed that it was indeed Fred who was arrested, and all indications were that the grisly story the Times was about to publish was true.

I followed the story from time to time over the next several years.  He was tried for 1st-degree murder and convicted.  Then, after a successful appeal he was granted a new trial at which he was convicted again.  He is currently serving a life sentence.

How's that for a crazy neighbor?

@68040
We let that count as a crazy neighbor indeed!

Are you playing local mp3 files or do you stream webradio? I'd be interested in the later, our attempts have been unsuccessful thus far.

@mac-cellar working right next to a convicted murderer! Talk about living on the edge! :-D

Seriously, crazy story. It's always baffling when you realize you worked with someone who all of a sudden turns out to be some crazy whacko capable of doing things you had never expected.

+1 posting from Maggie. Lovely setup :-)

Not streaming right now, but I plan that foo later. One curious side note:

Playing instrumental music on B-II sounds like it ought to, but as soon as I play vocal music the sound reminds me - awfully - of vintage PC speakers. No bass of any kind!

Now is that intentionally emulated that way or are there any settings I could adjust?
