Location is Germany; so this is really for the Europeans among you: Thinking of trading my perfectly working PowerMac 8600/200 for a PowerBook, ideally one that runs 7.6 (e.g. a 1400, 3400 etc.) but I'm open. I just need something to impress people at McDonalds ;-) In more serious terms, the PowerBook should work fine, ideally the battery keeps it alive for some time in stand-by, the offer includes the power supply and the PowerBook doesn't look like it came out of a dumpster or was used as a punching bag. (I'm sure you've all seen them on ebay ...) Anyone interested in a swap? If so, drop me a line and we can work out the details. |

Humm i do have a 1400cs i think. Although it stopped working. I don’t need a swap. Unless you have a network card for a 6500/300. I originally got it as my bridge computer to get apps on to se/30 but had difficulty finding the right 16 bit network card so never used it and just got the 6230 cd desktop for £50 instead. Let me pull me out and have a look see if’s salvageable if so you can have it. I’ll look weekend and see if it is could work again. It was a project but i have 4 other macs so just haven’t got around too doing it. I even have spares, i replacement keyboard, a cdrom and floppy slot out units and a few other bits and pieces. It was on 7.1 but it just stopped working about 2 years ago. Possibly power supply but you never know i’ve not opened it up to check caps or internal battery. I’ll check it out for you and open it up. Hopefully it’s not terminal.

I'd love an 8600! but you'd have to wait till I either got to Europe again, or possibly once a friend of mine situates herself in Spain, maybe she could bring it back with her during a vacay time. That's the possibly good news..this would still leave my pre-G3 Powerbooks, all in an unknown condition/position since they likely need some h/w attention, but I'm all thumbs as far as their hardware, so it's a bit of a sticky situation on that front. I don't think I'd have any working batteries for them, but that would only need a careful choosing of a replacement online I think?

haha, I hope your friend in Spain does body-building, @cballero. That thing is quite sturdy. Metal chassis, not the cheap Performa brittle plastic. It was built to stay :-) I'm not in a hurry for a swap. I just figured since I'm spending most of my computing time with either my IIci or G4 but don't have a Macintosh notebook to work with on the road at McDonald's, it'd make a good swap. It does appear to get hard to find working System 7 notebooks at this point though. Looking through the local classifieds brings up tons of broken machines that don't power on or show other deficiencies. The power supplies are very likely in need of a recap at this point. Man, I wish someone would do the FPGA System 7 Mac and allow for easy transplating that one into a notebook case ;-) @Neal_SE30 - awesome, but no hurry please. Also not sure if shipping wouldn't be crazy given the fact you guys in the UK aren't within the common EU market anymore. So I'd probably have to pay customs too. Ugh.

I don’t think uk currier in import tax is a major problem like it is with say USA. I’ll get it out the weekend anyway but unlikely to check it over properly until i’m back from holiday anyway so i’ll be 3 weeks before i can look at it properly. I’ll see what i can do, it maybe dead anyway but I’ll have a look and take it from there 👍
