DOS 6.2.2 was the last version to run under 8088, 8086, or 286 CPUs. Thus anything more recent (like DOS 7 and above) requires an 80386 or higher. Which means it won't run under most vintage emulators. But you could of course run it on any present day QEMU, Bochs or VMWare/VirtualBox setup.

I prefer FreeDOS (for the included tools and FS drivers), but that's a question of personal choice.
