Quote Dear friends, we're gathered here today to mourn the death of that once-beloved monarch of the mobile world: BlackBerry. And, yes, I realize that this is not the first time we've announced the death of the company or its devices (and, for reasons I'll explain below, it likely won't be the last) but this is a very definite ending for legacy BlackBerry hardware. I had been a Blackberry user from the mid 2000s all the way to after the Blackberry 10 cancelation. I still own my Blackberry Playbook, which was/is one fine piece of tablet. (well, as nice a castrated computer can be) Blackberry is a perfect example of stupid management, in part due to ignorance and also the unwillingness to listen to its engineers and customers. The final nail in the coffin was the decision to do everything like everyone else does (going Android), as if that strategy ever worked for anyone. (imagine Apple had dropped everything and become just a software house publishing Claris & stuff back in 1997) I still miss the keyboard of my Blackberry Bold mobile. I was feeling so comfortable using it. And I bet I'd still write any message faster with it than with those darned virtual keyboards. RIM, the company behind Blackberry, had done an excellent job. |

How do you spell "sustainable" in a tech world that discards entire ecosystems like used paper cups?
