Wrote a small article on what to do with freezing Macs. I can't point out how essential using MacsBug has become for me. Perhaps the most important extension I have. Can this actually save you from having to reboot? Windows has the thing where the app closes and you get an error, then you can relaunch easily. I want to try this out. Hopefully it'll save me from losing stuff. PS: Still not back in Mac-land yet. Have a little while to go before I can finally get my 9600 running in this new place...

Syntho! We started wondering if you had forgotten about us ;-) Well, crossing fingers you manage to get your 9600 up an running soon again! I don't know how you can take it so long ... :-) As for your question - yes, this actually saves you (from a lot of) reboots. By using "es" you quit the offending application as stated in the article. If it didn't go on a rampage e.g. in memory, you can just continue your work. I do that when using iCab all the time ...

Just got my first Macsbug crash. It said something about unmapped memory. Was able to type es and then it gave a type 2 error. I restarted just in case (I've heard a reboot is required after an error like that), but maybe I didn't need to? I wonder what that whole unmapped memory thing was. Fummily enough, it gave it to me while browsing this site in Netscape.

We're innocent! ;-) Yes, you can continue to work even after e.g. a memory exception. iCab sometimes throws one at me too and I got to learn that I can continue working after "ESing" out. So yeah, you're right, generally it's a good idea to reboot but sometimes that is just inconvenient. I'd simply continue to work (save often maybe  ) and see how it behaves. Still, it's a cool feeling to recover from a potential freeze and being able to save work and stuff, right?
