looking to use either my NES or my SNES and capture footage from it on a system 7 computer (probably a 7300 power macintosh) and make it so that it runs at a decent pace (24.97fps is the rate of human retina from what i understand) and playback on a 68k computer like a mac iici

Thanks,

The short answer is probably no. If I were to approach this problem, I would probably look to capture some screen shots of the game play, along with capturing some sound bites from the game. Then using QuickTime, create a slide show of the screen shots with the sound bites as the background music. The screen shots would no doubt need to be reduced in size and resolution and the sound bites would also need to be reduced in order to get it to play smoothly on a Iici.

One could also try using an outside screen capture device. The captured content would most likely need to be edited on a more powerful machine, and once again the quality of the sound and video would need to be seriously stomped to make it playable on a Iici. There are users here with a IIci who could advise as to the capabilities of the Iici.

One could also use Hypercard. Create a stack where each card has an image for the game play and a sound bite to accompany the image. The view could either flip through the cards, other the cards could auto play creating something of a slideshow effect.

The specifics of these actions is probably beyond my limits, but there are many on the forums with more relevant expertise than I have who could chime in with help.

I would be interest in seeing the results of your handiwork. Good luck on your project

Probably better off hitting fullscreen on snes9x or nestopia and recording it using snapz pro x than doing that i figure based on your post? and then beating it down to size in quicktime 6 on my powerbook g4 ay!

I am not sure what software and hardware you have at your disposal. Snapz Pro X is OS X software that runs on 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9. That would be excellent for capture as you can set the frame rate and it saves the capture as a .mov file which can be edited using any QuickTime compatible software.

If you are creating this on a machine running OS X, I would suggest that you look to use HandBrake. It is an excellent freeware transcoder that is excellent at downsizing videos.

If you have a TV card or composite in (like I have on my 8600) you could at least get the video viewable from your 7300. Never thought of capturing anything on one though.

I did my first useful video capture on an 8600. Plugged in a VCR. I was not the greatest experience, however it did work. Seemed ot me that about a half hour of capture was about all you could do before the system ran out of resources. The transcoding of the raw capture into a useful file took forever, as did the rendering of a useful video.

so i figured out a good way to record the screen on my pismo running Mac OS 9.1 (couldnt get snapz pro 2 to run on my 1400cs/166 running 7.6.1 bummer can it even run on 7.6 and record a window? so far it just crashes) ive been recording a series of videos of Pokemon Red running in Boycott 0.6.3 for cornica of course! and so far its been pretty good 10fps and it looks like its running full speed plus Audio! :O

Nice job and good advice @wove! I think about the only thing not mentioned is that there is special hardware out there that allows for recording the video output by being put in-between the monitor and Mac. The downside is that you get a lag of about a second which is a no-no on a time-sensitive thing like e.g. an Action game
