I just found this site from Low End Mac, which is where I used to wander when I was into tinkering with my compact Macs.

A few months ago, my SE/30 turned on all by itself after a lightening storm and wouldn't boot. After messing with it a bit, I unplugged it and figured I would try again later. This morning I opened the case and replaced the PRAM battery, and voila!, it's working again. The hard drive or fan is a bit noisier than I remember, but other than that , all is well. Even the external Syquest drive is working.

I'm going to have to see if I can get this thing back on line; I've changed service providers a few times since last time I checked email with it.

This is a really great site for playing around with these machines and System 7. As a programmer I can tell you it was a pain to program for but it really achieved an elegance that has seldom been matched.
