Went to boot up my old 575 today. The internal battery is dead, but reset time and date in control panes.
When trying to boot up program, I get message to RESET ALARM CLOCK DA. How do I do that?

I'm new to your group but have been using a Mac / Apple since 1984. I love them, have always performed flawlessly.

You so not say what OS you are running on your 575. The AlarmClock DA dates from system 6 days. When System 7 came out part of the install contained an application that converted old System 6 Desk Accessories into Applications, which would run as a normal application under System 7.

If you are still running System 6, installed desk accessories should be found under the Apple Menu. Desk Accessories were "suitcases" much like fonts and were installed in the System Folder. The Application called Font/DA Mover was used to move font and desk accessories in and out of the System file.

Sorry, should have told you it is system 7.5
Is it necessary to replace the internal battery before I can reset this DS alarm clock? I use this machine only as a backup for my auto shop program "Turbo Mac", an auto shop management  and repair order generating program. which I have been using since the late 80s. My main 575 is still up and running and I need to know what to do before it goes to sleep.

It is very nice to hear about and older Mac and an older application being used over such a long period of time. If the machine is being regularly used, it is probably a good idea to install a new backup battery. A new back up battery is available here, although there are many other sources as well.

As long as the computer is plugged in it should retain its settings. A dead backup battery can cause a variety of symptoms, from simply an inconvenience to preventing the computer from starting up. You should be able to reset the date and time without replacing the backup battery, but you will need to reset the date and time every time the computer is unplugged or the power fails.
