Hi, I have an LC475 without system. Where can I find system disks for 68k macs? (LC475 has a SCSI hdd and a floppy drive) I changed the buttery so its stats the firmware and displays the screen "system not found". How can i write the floppy images to a disk? (I have a G3 too and some PCs with Windows.) Thanks, Beni |

As there is no need for any of us to re-invent the wheel, start here: http://macfaq.org/software/macos.shtml#Q1.1.5 The only one of the several free systems available listed there from Apple that an LC475 will run is 7.5.3/ 7.5.5. If you want 7.1, 7.5, 7.6.1 or 8-8.1 you will need to look elsewhere. My first tactic would be to download the 7.5.3 Disk Tools disk, prepare a floppy as described in the site above, boot your 475 and see if you can see a system on the hard drive already installed. Google the phrase "bless system folder" and read around in the hits. The fact that your Mac will not start up does not necessarily mean that it has no viable system installed - that is possible, but not necessarily the case. Best of luck with it.

Your links helped me to realize my SCSI HDD is dead. Some years ago there was an installed System 7.6 on it. I've use my G3 with Mac OS 8.6 and it was much more easier than using my PC according to the guide. When I get a new SCSI disk I can finish the installation now. Any SCSI disk will work with it? (I hope) Thanks, Beni

You would be best to try finding a 50-pin scsi disk in the 1-4 GB range (or smaller). One from an Apple machine is easiest, but not necessary. How do you know the present drive is dead?

Yesterday I haven't got enough time to the "full" test, so HD SC setup doesn't find any suitable SCSI device. Today I've tried the Apple disk in my Pentium with a PCI SCSI card and it found something, but I couldn't access it with fdisk (using MS-DOS 6.22). I have an other SCSI HDD but I would like to use it for testing my own operation system on my PC (when it will support SCSI so it's far  ), butI tried it with both computer and it does the same as the Apple HDD. So I don't know what to do now. Beni
