Hey all, I have a 660av that I rescued from a dumpster some years ago. One PRAM battery later, and I had a working Mac… that's been gathering dust. Recently, when thinking about how to record my band's rehearsals, it occurred to me: if Trevor Rabin made a Yes album on Macs in 1993, surely I can get a couple hours of stereo into something I've already got in storage. Right? Well, the idea is increasingly attractive, just to show the bigger-better-faster crowd that it can be done. If some musicians yearn for vintage instruments or recording consoles, why NOT make an indie CD on a vintage computer. Still, CD-quality audio clearly takes up a great deal of space. So my questions are: How do I GET a great deal of space for such a machine? And once gotten, how do I get my music OFF the Quadra and to the iMac for DVD archiving? Do those SCSI-IDE adaptors work? Compact Flash adaptor? I'm lost here, gang. And hey, while I'm here, anyone got any tips for capturing sound with an AV Mac that they'd like to pass on to a relative neophyte? Pro Tools, Deck II? I haven't a clue. |

Hi JB, I can answer the storage part. Go to http://afterthemac.com/mac.php?sub=drive There are 50 GB SCSI drives there. That would give you the storage you need. As for connecting to your other Mac, the Quadra has an AAUI-15 ethernet connector. You need an AAUI-15 to RJ45 tranceiver. I have one of these on my 7100 and it works great. Then you just connect over your LAN. Check out: http://main.system7today.com/articles/tutorials/osxfilesharing.html on this site to see how to connect to OS X.
