Hello at all I am new of this forum. I'm sorry for my bad english but I am Italian... I write from Rome in Italy...  Where can I find the installation floppy for the mac os 7? I need the floppy because I have a powerbook 1400c/166 with a broken CD-ROM drive? Thank you |

Welcome to the forum. I can assure you that your English is better than my Italian. Here is the link for the older software downloads from Apple. In the system section you will see a set of images for System 7.5.3. Be sure to read the Read.me file for the software. You will need a disk image entitled "System 7.5 Network Access floppy disk" which will allow you to boot the 1400, so you can work with the images. You can probably locate that image here as well as other helpful bits of information. If you run into problems I am sure more help is available. If all works well, please let us hear about that as well. bill

Thank you for the reply but the System 7.5 Network Access disk don't work on my powerbook 1400c/166 when I insert the floppy disk it says "the startup disk will not work on thi macintosh model. Use the latest installer to upgrade this disk for this model" here: http://www.capmac.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1373 in the last post a user say: Quote

Sorry to leave you still looking for a solution. The link I posted in my earlier post (this one), is a good source for boot disks for older Mac Systems. A good search through that site should turn up a working boot disk. Using floppies to install an OS became harder and harder as time passed, the OS became quite large and by the time the OS arrived at Version 8 Apple was releasing hardware that did not have a floppy. Installing the OS on a 1400 with out a CD is going to be a real challenge. Other options to explore include: 1)Purchase an external CD ROM drive and use a CD installer. 2)Hook the 1400 to another Mac with SCSI using SCSI Target Mode and install the OS from that machine. 3) Remove the hard drive from a 1400 and put it into another computer and install the OS to the 1400 hard drive while it is installed in another computer. 4) Boot from a floppy with network support and connect either via AppleTalk (use serial cable to another Mac) or via the built in IRTalk port to another Powerbook with an IR port. Determination and perseverance is the key to success. bill
